Nightwalkers are purely that: creatures that are known to show their faces primarily at night. It is said that they were born of the night, of a goddess of the night. This is still unclear, though many believe it to be true. Nightwalkers are known for being extremely malicious, if not just downright scary. Most take on the form of attractive men and women to lead their victims astray before feeding on their fear--to the extent of killing the victim via heart failure or total system shut down. Victims, should they live, are usually left with a weak form of retrograde amnesia, unable to recall even their names for a few days.

Nightwalkers are nomadic, and usually stay in groups of two or three. The species itself is not a highly populated one, and many would regard it as bordering on rare. They are, however, not among their stronger, rarer company. Nightwalkers have been likened to Slenders, or rather the common story passed around them. They are, though, cousin species. Primary differences lie in appearance and tactics.

[ Personality ] Amani, despite her actual wishes, grew up knowing what it is to break a person. She's been trained to rip a person bare with just her words, and to deal that finishing blow. Her cruelty towards others is not something she designed for herself, but something that she was designed from. While she might think her words are harmless, they are not in all actuality. If not checked, Amani is likely to continue acting as she always has. She would continue to ruin people with the direction of her mother lingering in the back of her mind. And she sometimes knows she's doing it. Those are the times when she has decided that she would like to see something go down. That she would like to rile someone up to the point of violence or intense hatred towards someone else. It was always an interesting thing to watch with her mother, so why not continue it.

If there is something that sets Amani apart from others, it is her near inability to feel emotion. All that she can feel is dulled down substantially, suppressed by the teachings of her mother. She cannot offer more than a smile to anything that could make her happy, and even then she questions if she is truly pleased by it. But Amani has always wanted to know what it's like to actually feel something. Her emotional response range has been so severely dwindled to the negative that she can hardly think of it as possible to know the positive. She wants to know, though. Wants to learn what it's like to laugh and truly mean it, without it sounding the least bit bitter and angry. Amani wouldn't mind having someone teach her how to feel, or at least bring out some sort of feeling. Amicability, relating to this, has never been her strong point. Making friends has always been a challenge, especially when she might accidentally hurt them or their feelings. Because as dangerous as someone can be, the most dangerous is someone who is wrong and believing they are right.

[ History ] The question of who fathered a creature such as Amani is answered quite simply. He was no more than one of Ferim's victims, a man slaughtered for his money. He was the most favourable in terms of his looks of all Ferim's lovers, and thus she chose him to father her only child. Selective breeding such as this would make for a beautiful child and better genes to pass on. It had long since been noted that the Nightwalker genes more often than not overrode human genes, making it near impossible for a hybrid to be conceived with a human partner. But Amani's father would not live to see the birth of his daughter. Shortly after it had been confirmed that Ferim was pregnant, her father died quite tragically in an "accident".

It would seem that there were no shortages of accidents when it came to Ferim and her lovers. They would find themselves caught in a fatal romance that ended only when they'd perished and Ferim was satisfied. Should it end sooner, she would find her means of satisfaction through bringing suffering to those they might have cared for. It had been an act for decades that Ferim carried on. Most would say that she simply couldn't help herself, and they would not be entirely wrong. There was a degree of inevitability in her actions, but her prosperity through them were through her own design.

It was this same design that Ferim used to craft Amani to how she so desired her daughter. She was schooled in the art of destruction from the moment she could retain information. It was made second nature--or perhaps it was just a matter of refining her primary nature--to scope out viable targets for her mother and herself. The wealthier they were, the better. Amani would play the lost child and Ferim the frantic mother. It was an ingenious lure, though there were instances when Amani was an added accessory and would be told to wait in the shadows for her mother's call.

All this was to advance them in class, each man more upstanding than the next. Should Amani feel a twinge of regret for ruining someone kind, Ferim would be quick to squash that feeling. The idea of feeding from the weak had always been a constant weight upon the nightwalker and her child. It was no more than a fact that would loom in the air, a basic need. Things such as regret and shame had no place in their principles. And so it was that Amani found herself a new father to destroy whenever her mother asked. It was a cycle that continued until it came to an abrupt end.

Perhaps they were getting smart, but the prey was becoming less and less to choose from. Ferim's tendency to bounce from one lover to the next was soon met with obstacles as people became wary of her. They wanted not a premature death--or death at all--that followed with courting her. Her final victim fought back, and struck her down. As if to prove something, perhaps that he was not quite so weak, he drove his luxury car--a Jaguar or Audi, Amani would say; she remembers that it might have been one of those because she was the one that splattered his brains over the hood of the same car--over her mother. It didn't kill her, but it did cripple her. With no use of her legs, Ferim was no longer what she had once been.

From that moment on, Ferim's teachings intensified with a specific hatred for men who thought themselves strong. Who thought themselves sincere, or worthy of trust. Ferim's bitterness overrode her greed and hunger, and she whittled away to nothing. When charges were pressed against her by the last man she would deceive, she went over the edge. Ferim gave herself to the waters, rolling her chair into the nearest river. When her body was found, it had eroded far past recognition from any human eye, but Amani knew it was her with just a glance. It was this that drove her to kill the man.

Killing him was simple, as was disposing of him. She beat his skull in with a hammer, and then swallowed him into her shadows. He remains there still, a reminder that no man should go without punishment for anything he might do, and as a reminder that her mother had been weak enough to fall victim to this human man. Shortly after exacting her vengeance, she wandered until she came upon Roselake. Her arrival may have been the start of change, or just another round of what her mother taught her.

The Kamimoto family is perhaps one the dark horses of the race for the crown. While all the attention might remain on the Ashbridges and the Willows, they have slowly been making their way up the ranks. Very slowly; slow enough that the other houses don't see them as much competition. Boisterous, numerous, and proud, the family itself has been mixing with Griffins and Tengu for many years now. Hailed as superior species of flight, this has lead the Kamimotos to believe that they are the rightful rulers of the air, and thus of Kromla. They operate under a branch system that has seen their family through since its creation and has cultivated an environment that encourages both personal growth and competition. There are six branch families under the current matriarch Rila Kamimoto, who has taken over in the stead of her late mate. The first born children of each branch family are generally the ones to compete to become heir to the main branch, regardless of parental attachment to the family. There have been instances, however, in which a younger born child of a branch family may enter in competition to be heir, usually through the petition or selection of their parents. While there is nobility in their upbringing, there is a noted dalliance with death and violence within the family itself. The Kamimotos take pride in mixing with various forms of dark magic and rumors that are far less than savory--but entirely honest. Why have pride if you hide the hide the things you do?
