Skloot is from a different world from Lacks's family and she explores these differences fairly honestly in the book.

I started to read it a couple of years ago at the wrong time in my life - I couldn't give it the time it deserved. The 100 pages or so that I read were fantastic, and I say this as someone who typically doesn't enjoy non-fiction reads. The pacing is perfect. The story astounding. Very accessible. I learned alot, but didn't feel "instructed", if that makes sense.
Thanks for your thoughts ladies. Now I am even more curious. lol. I think I will read it next month.

I wanna see that.
What a coincidence! I discussed this with my students just today, as an example of what happens when you forget to treat people as people and treat them as experiments instead.
I remember reading this book and being so heartbroken over the treatment of Henrietta and all of her family. So tragic. I hope the movie does the book justice.
I have this at home and need to finally read it before I have to return it! I've heard it's excellent, albeit sad.

I just watched the movie. It was awesome. very close to the book. I'm pretty sure Oprah will get some awards for her performance
