I've read it, I've met the author, and it's a very interesting book not only because Henrietta Lacks's story is interesting, but also because the author made assumptions and presumptions while she reported and wrote this book, and these became part of the story, too. Skloot is from a different world from Lacks's family and she explores these differences fairly honestly in the book.

I started to read it a couple of years ago at the wrong time in my life - I couldn't give it the time it deserved. The 100 pages or so that I read were fantastic, and I say this as someone who typically doesn't enjoy non-fiction reads. The pacing is perfect. The story astounding. Very accessible. I learned alot, but didn't feel "instructed", if that makes sense.

Phil J What a coincidence! I discussed this with my students just today, as an example of what happens when you forget to treat people as people and treat them as experiments instead.

Dosha (Bluestocking7) Beard (bluestocking7) | 4376 comments I remember reading this book and being so heartbroken over the treatment of Henrietta and all of her family. So tragic. I hope the movie does the book justice.
