MinSang In the book, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Oskar Schell has his life greatly affected when his father, Thomas Schell, unfortunately died in the 9/11 terrorist attack. One day, Oskar stumbles upon a key that propels him into a city wide search for any clues that his father may still be alive. I found it very interesting that Oskar can reflect on himself regularly through his diary or simple thoughts, a trait quite uncommon amongst 9 year olds. Also, He commonly has "heavy boots" throughout the book when he which is his way of showing him feeling depressed and goes on to bruise himself as a coping method. While Oskar believes he is on this search for remnants left behind by his dad all alone, his mother actually knew everything all along and contacted every individual Oskar would get in contact with in New York City to make sure Oskar would be safe. I found this twist at the end very touching, signifying how much our parents really love us. Overall, a great read and would recommend others to give it a read.
