How often do you forget the plot of a book you've read?

Going through my 'read' list and feeling insecure about how little I remember ....can anyone reassure me please :)

I've bought the same book twice - more than once - and am usually at least halfway through it before I realize I've already read it!
The same thing happens to me! I read The Giver twice before I realized that I'd read it before!
I believe it must happen to everyone because it is just so spontaneous after u have done with one adventure. But what if we think this way: once u reread the books, the familiar spots and scenario would surge into your mind like crazy and u just would keep being amazed by the magic of the books.
I feel like I've forgotten 80% of what I've learned!
Quite often. Not sure if its because I have bad comprehension or if I just have a horrible memory in generally.
Quite often, especially books in a series.
Honestly? Happens with 90% of books for me, where I'll remember the basic outline but nothing else of the plot.
