Taysia Wallace Rating:***** Category: Nonfiction Dates Read: March 12-May 10
Summary: This nonfiction novel traces the story of Valentino Achak Deng, who was just 7 years old got separated from his family when his village in Sudan was attacked by government helicopters and became one of the estimated 17,000 "lost boys of Sudan" before relocating from a Kenyan refugee camp to Atlanta. The “lost boys” begin on foot to an Ethiopia refugee camp. On their way the encounter a lot of terrible and dangerous events.
Review: This book was amazing! It took me along time to read, and I read it in spurts because I am not a huge reader. Dave Eggers did a wonderful job of displaying this the way he did. I enjoyed how it was coming through the eyes of a African American during the Civil War in Sudan. I really would recommend this book to anyone who likes reading novels in a journal format, and to someone who loves to learn the historical events of this world.
