A question for the US based BYTers....Is "Madonna in a Fur Coat" by Sabahattin Ali available in the US?
Looking at Amazon US from the UK, it look as though a hardback edition is going to be published at the end of June. Confusingly I can also see a few reviews that are for the Kindle edition, but I cannot see any Kindle edition on Amazon US.
I am thinking of nominating this book but for our August 2016 fiction group read, however before making a decision, I want to establish how available it is in the USA.
Thanks in anticipation.
PS: It sounds fab...

Hi Nigeyb,Looks like a Kindle version was published in the US on May 5 but oddly there's no paper version available. The hardback is available at Book Depository for $11.04, free shipping.
Thanks Barbara and Miss M. Is there a publication date for a hardcopy? And a more general question, would US based BYTers be happy to read it on Kindle if it won a poll?
I'd be happy to read it. Of course, without knowing what else might be nominated, I can't promise to vote for it....but it sounds very good. Had never heard of this author. Time to read something by him!
Thanks again. Very helpful. In the UK it's £4.99 for Kindle and & c£7 for the hardcover (with some cheaper second hand copies around). I imagine the new Penguin Classics hardback will be imported to the US by some sellers.
It was already on my wishlist and it would be an interesting group read. I was intending to give the library a bit of time to buy a copy but I will probably end up buying the kindle version. Shall we wait a couple of months and see if it becomes more readily available in the US? If it doesn't, I would be happy to join a group read in autumn.
Thanks Val. Thanks Jan. I think it would make an interesting group read but perhaps the relative expense for US based BYTers makes it something we should either hold off on, or perhaps do as a hot read, or maybe just not bother?

It's a shame though as I am champing at the bit, however I will wait a few months to see what happens Stateside.

Sabahattin Ali was one of the most influential Turkish writers of the twentieth century. A teacher, translator, journalist and dedicated socialist, he owned and edited a popular weekly newspaper, which became a target of government censorship because of its political and satirical editorials. He was imprisoned more than once for his political views and writings, and eventually assassinated in 1948 while allegedly secretly crossing the border to Bulgaria. Why, where, and by whom he was murdered, and where he was buried, remains a mystery.
Penguin Classics have just reissued Madonna in a Fur Coat which looks like another one to add to the BYT era novels that deserves a group read and discussion. Check this out...
