Hahaha! If it were then she was not thinking big enough! I corrected it ;)

I resisted the In Death books for a long time too. I actually think it was annapi who convinced me to give them a whirl.
I like them and read maybe one or two a year. I am obviously no where near caught up with the series and, like any series, they can get a bit formulaic, but I really like the characters. It is a nice change to actually have characters that she develops over the long term.
What about the content do you not know if you would like? The police procedural part? The futuristic part?

Nileema, I think her J.D. Robb stories are better than her regular romance. Roarke is the sexiest man in literature IMO! You HAVE to give them a try!

Haha! Now I am really looking forward to this!

It was the futuristic part that had me disinterested - but from what you've said it seems this doesn't feature in too much of a sci-fi kind of way which is good!

This is a two-book compilation of Hot Rocks and Big Jack (#17.5 in the In Death series by J.D. Robb).
This was a quick, entertaining read that also moved me farther through the In Death series. The first half is written by Nora Roberts (who is J.D. Robb but with a different slant) and focuses on Laine Tavish, the owner of an antique store in small town Maryland and daughter of an infamous criminal, Big Jack. But, the good kind of criminal who everyone loves and never physically hurts anyone. When Jack appears to be in on the diamond heist of the century, insurance investigator Max Gannon shows up to do some undercover work and can't seem to keep his hands off the lovely Laine. They do some undercover work together too ;)
The second half of the story takes place in 2059 NYC (as does the whole In Death series) and Lt. Eve Dallas is hot on the trail of the diamonds that were stolen and never recovered over 50 years ago. A series of murders tips her off that someone knows about the diamonds and believes they are still out there, and with the help of her heartthrob billionaire husband Roarke (who has ruined all real life men for me) and trusty sidekick Peabody.
The compilation of two medium-sized stories (each part is still over 200 pages but well short of her typical length) means that some of the details and (relative) complexity that I typically find in Roberts/Robb books was missing. Still, and entertaining way to continue the series and a way to get a Roarke fix!
