Eric Deakin | 7 comments I was unable to bring this title into the group. goodreads don't yet have it listed. It is published on Amazon kindle as an eBook. It is a work of science fiction and traces the expensive, long path of the colonization of Mars. The book follows an old soldier, his dog and a young Australian Aboriginal girl as they lead humankind to the colonization of Mars with a little help from the Axis Kentrikos Engineers.

Kate Rauner (katerauner) | 4 comments Hi guys - I'm interested in writing about colonizing Mars (scifi) so of course I'm interested in reading about Mars, too. :)

Eric Deakin | 7 comments I did the same. The second volume is in construction. The costs are HUGE. Moon is easier, closer and more rewarding but nations on Earth feel threatened by Moon colonies so Mars is open. It is a very political issue though not well disseminated.

I usually focus on technical challenges - but you're right about the political challenges.

Eric Deakin | 7 comments I don't like politics but it has been shown to be essential in understanding the challenges of colonization. If you can solve the politics the technique is easy.

Kate Rauner (katerauner) | 4 comments Politics at both ends - even in a small colony. Maybe in the first small colony they'll call it personality clashes instead of politics. Living in close quarters with limited ability to get away from each other will create some interesting group dynamics.

Eric Deakin | 7 comments I have reached the stage in book 2 where autocratic governance allows no dissidence. New Mars sends dissidents back to Earth and The Earth government executes its own and New Mars's if they continue. On Earth the combined Earth major powers cleansed most of the world of terrorist dissidents and their supporters, killing millions. Men Women and children. It was the only way to stop warfare in order to comply with the dictates of an alien interdicting power. The alternative was extinction. Continuing diplomacy between Earth and New Mars sees changes to these harsh policies and a Moon prison base is established for previously executed dissidents.

The First New Martians.

A young Aboriginal girl from central Australia leads humankind to the stars. Her determination and a little help from various places make this possible. The power play and politics of this journey span centuries. Humankind is dragged kicking and screaming out of the abyss their evolutionary stalemate trapped them in. Alien protective powers and those who would plunder the Sol system are involved. The best and the worst of human nature fight to further their control but are thwarted in their efforts to capture and use the new technologies for humankind's worst perversion, warfare.
Technology is not invented, it is discovered. It exists but is hidden from us by our ignorance. Knowing something is possible provides the incentive to uncover the means. The diverse characters of this story lead us in a bipartisan endeavour where humankind strives to uncover the technology needed to project themselves into their future, while a powerful extraterrestrial axis protects them and their star system from incursion and exploitation by alien cultures. This interdiction of the Sol system by the Axis Kentrikos (Αξης Κεντρικός) has been in place for many millions of years. It is the prime reason few encounters with extraterrestrial entities have ever been reported. This will all change as humankind leave their system to take their place in the cosmos. This is the beginning of greatness.

Reviews.
Very interesting look at the future!
A story extremely rich in detail that describes how humans ultimately colonize Mars. Australian writer Eric Deakin uses technology, physics, astronomy, biology, politics, and more to engage the reader in this look at the future of humankind.

Engaging epic to the stars!
A rollicking adventure from the deserts of Australia to the colony New Mars. Join our narrator, Jula, and the poodle Grace on an epic saga to the stars. The writing is engaging and full of vivid description that curries the imagination. A great read.

Good Book. Worth Reading!
This is a good book. The style is unorthodox and reminds me a bit of ee cummings, but the story is enjoyable and well written. Good job!

Eric Deakin | 7 comments Good News.
The Sequel to “The First New Martians” is now in print and eBook format with Amazon. The first book will be available free for 5 days from the 16th March. The new novel called “Tomorrow’s Belt” Traces the slow but steady movement of Humanity out from Earth. The colonisation of Mars described in the first volume has resulted in a self-sufficient successful colony now called “New Mars” The need for heavy metals and water for Mars has resulted in a move to colonise the Asteroid Belt. Some of this colonisation has been by companies sanctioned by the New Mars councils. Some are the result of Criminals, incarcerated on the Moon and now unable to sustain planetary gravity, stealing tugs and escaping to the Belt. Their theft is aided and abetted by Jula. A charismatic leader who sees the sense in having those people with the drive to escape, move to a hostile environment where their resolve might allow them to survive and even prosper. She helps to provide the tugs and supplies to set up small settlements. Some of these people resort to piracy and later need to be controlled.
Meanwhile, The Axis Kentrikós’s vessel Syrax, commanded by the Guardian, fights an interstellar war with a Hive entity, hoard. He is assisted by the Uurtig, an alien race, who unknown to humankind are now their allies. The results of this war, bring the Axis Kentrikós’s representative to New Mars and Earth. An ultimatum is issued.
