You can post about chapters 1-8 in this thread. Spoilers allowed.

Pamela aka Scottieluvr (scottieluvr) From the beginning the story was non stop action, and I found no slumps as I read further...

The build up towards Cara's past was well done. That alone kept me captivated, longing to find out what made this independent, self reliant woman, in an era when demure and dependency reigned. Once its revealed the horror is tangible, but explains so much about Cara's character, phobias, and hatred for her father.

Did anyone else notice how Nate, from the moment of their first "date", gave space while seducing Cara. He never rushed or demanded. He let Cara accept at her own pace... A very slow but thought out process.

I completely agree Pamela. I loved how he treated Cara. He didn't push too much. Just the right amount. And I understand her hatred for her father. He was definitely not there for her when she needed him to protect her.

And can I say the opening chapter was fabulous. Or shall I say scene. Meet my friends Smith and Wesson. It might be my favorite book beginning now.

I love the beginning of this! I love Nathaniel and Cara. I love how he's treating Cara. I hate Cara's father and am glad he got killed by an asp. I'm really loving where this is going!

I think I love the randomness of how he was killed. I mean who gets killed by an asp!!!

He apparently pissed someone off! :)

Danny Knestaut (dannyknestaut) I just picked this up today and read the first chapter. I see people are liking it. I'm curious as to what it is that everyone likes about Cara?

Her strength, self reliance, independence despite societal standards, and the fact she doesn't need a man to create an identity. She's the kind of person who gets things done, not lay about bemoaning the weather.

YES! The first chapter moved at a brisk pace for sure!!! There wasn't a lag in that pace throughout the whole book. And I do love her friends, Smith and Wesson. A girl can never have too many lethal friends.

I agree! Sounds rather violent on my part but - warning: cliche coming - a father is suppose to protect their children, not hand them over for nefarious purposes.

I could just ditto Pamela. She's independent in a time where women were possessions. She doesn't let her past or what happened to her define her even though it hurts when others look at her differently.

Exactly. And what he did was repulsive.
