Adriana lay there, silently awaiting her fate. She could still remember the looming presence of her captor. He watched over her like a hawk stalking its prey, ready to pounce. Adriana could feel her face going pale as she lay in the barren, futuristic room. Her lips were dry as sandpaper as she lay, forced to hear him cackle and scream.

Interesting. Is this Adriana's memory or happening "real time"? I might reword a few things, but that's me.
Hm... I didn't think about that. When I was writing I wrote in real time, but a memory could be an interesting concept :)
