I read this book a while back which was about a pack of wolves who heard rumours about a really big wolf pack with a super strong leader that kept fighting other wolf packs to make them join his wolf army, and then the (other) wolf pack kept fleeing from it? I remember it being quite a thick book as well.

The Sight by David Clement Davies? I can't link it right now since I'm on my phone, but it's about wolves and is quite thick.
