Hayley Shaver | 7 comments I liked the Anabasis by Xenophon, Up from Slavery by Booker T. Washington, or Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs/ Linda Brent (Harriet Jacobs is a pseudonym).

I have tended not to enjoy autobiographies very much because they can be quite, cliche? I don't think that's the right description. But in my literature course last year we had to read "Brother, I'm Dying" by Edwidge Danticat.

It's more a family memoir, with Danticat talking about the lives of her father and uncle and honestly, it's beautiful and heartbreaking and just an ideal understanding that you don't have to have celebrity status to have your life story told. I would recommend it, as someone who normally can't deal with autobiographies. I don't know if it officially comes under that label though, but certainly worth a read.

Darby | 217 comments I just finished "Brain on Fire" by Susannah Cahalan. She's not a celebrity or anyone particularly famous, but she has a rare disease that caused her immune system to suddenly attack her brain. It was a really interesting read.

Also really enjoyed "I am Malala" by Malala Yousefzai. It's really heavy on the history of where she's from at first, but once you get past that it's pretty smooth sailing.

Darby | 217 comments OOOH and also "Positive" by Paige Rawl. It's a quick read, I did it in 2 hours roughly. She grew up with HIV and it lead to some pretty horrific bullying from her teachers and peers after it all came out at school.

Stephanie (stecky) | 29 comments I agree w/ Terra about 'You're Never Weird on the Internet'. Craig Ferguson's 'American on Purpose' & Malala Yousufzai's 'I am Malala' are also very good.
