Historical Fictionistas discussion

I am rapidly developing a massive author-crush on Kate Quinn. I just finished The Serpent and the Pearl and am enjoying The Lion and the Rose on audiobook, plus I'm reading Mistress of Rome at the gym every day.

I find myself very drawn to her characters, who tend to be complicated and very human (though some are just outright villains...) and I adore her prose.

I'm glad you like Mistress of Rome. That one still remains my top fave with Vix and Sabrina a close second. I can't wait for their next book.

Mistress of Rome is a page turner. I loved reading that book! I won't read the second book until the third comes out.

Empress of the Seven Hills is already out. Do you mean the 4th book in the series?

I forgot about the prequel book. I apologize, yes I meant the fourth book.

Oh, no problem! I thought I missed something. lol.

I just finished Mistress of Rome last night and I'm debating whether to go ahead and read the prequel book or skip to #3 in the series. thoughts?

To be honest, #2 was my least favorite of the three. If you're interested in the Emperor and Empress then read book #2 because there is some good story there. I don't think you miss out on a lot by skipping though.

Love Kate Quinn! She and Michelle Moran were some of the first HF authors I got into, and they'll always have a special place in my heart.

I read one of her books awhile back, maybe 6 or 7 years ago.
