Yearly Challenge - Getting Back to our Paranormal Roots Challenge
Duration: July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017

For this mid-year challenge, we will be "getting back to our roots" and reading books in each paranormal "category".

Categories
1. Vampires
2. Weres/Shifters
3. Zombies
4. Witches/Sorcerers

6. Ghosts
7. Angels/Demons
8. Other Paranormal Characters (ie dragons, gargoyles, mermaids, genies/djinn, etc.)

To complete the challenge, you'll need to pick a reading level. There are 8 levels to choose from. The regular levels simply require you to read the chosen number of books in each category, using ANY character in the book to fulfill the challenge. The plus levels take it a step further and require you to not only read the chosen number of books, but you may only count the MAIN character's "species" as your category.

For example: If you are reading Midnight Marked, which is in the Chicagoland Vampire's series, and contains Merit (the main character) who is a Vampire, as well as Witches and Weres, plus an odd Troll, etc., then you can use this book in any of those categories for "Regular", but ONLY the vampire category for "Plus".

→ For each book you read, please update your original post and somehow indicate which book you read, and the date you finished reading it. If you chose a plus level, feel free to add the main character's name (this is optional).

→ You may only use each book once in this challenge, but feel free to use the same titles in other challenges!

→ If you decide that you've bitten off more than you can chew, feel free to let me know you'd like to downgrade, or even back out of the challenge. However, please do not delete your posts. It will mess up the links to other participants' postings if you do.

I'm not a big zombie fan either - have you ever read Diana Rowland's zombie series - My Life as a White Trash Zombie is the first book. I didn't like it as much as her other series, but it's more humor than horror and if you're looking for an entry to zombie books, this may work for you.

Maybe try The Walking Dead comics for a zombie story? Or you could use a few of the early Anita Blake books by Laurell K. Hamilton (Guilty Pleasures) that have Anita raising zombies in them. The zombies aren't the main character though.

How about Pride and Prejudice and Zombies? Or Pet Sematary?

Zombies aren't my forte. I was planning to use a TWD comic for that section.

I forget what book the character turns into a zombie, but one of the Undead and Unwed books has a character die and turn into a zombie.

I highly suggest the Walking Dead comics - I love them! But, if comics aren't your thing, there are plenty of books.

I really enjoyed . Dearly, Departed would count for main character being a zombie.

Kevin Richey has a good series called Zombie Fairy Tales. He takes the classic fairy tales and rewrites them as zombies. It's really good.
