That they could exist legally? Yes. It turns my stomach to think about it. Hero should have whacked Childe in his family jewels when he was leering at the girl selling bunches of whatever it was. Creep.
What a contradiction. The establishment could exist without legal interference but Childe could be blackmailed for having frequented the place.
I also thought he might have molested Gabriella when she was younger, that being her reason for staying unmarried.

I wondered the same thing, Jonetta. I was a bit surprised that Hero knew of such predilections and places, but she is a constant surprise concerning what she knows about the non-genteel side of society.
I'm not at all surprised that an establishment of that kind could exist legally. Things were very different 200 years or so ago. Things that are completely unacceptable today were run of the mill back then.
