I just watched this short youtube video about him, which I thought was pretty interesting. Bradbury, Serling, Shatner, Ellison and others briefly discussing Charles Beaumont: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0eze...

As it happens, I just recently read the short story collection Perchance To Dream. I didn't love it, to be honest, but lots of other people do. He does seem to have been an interesting guy.

I read that collection a while ago and gave it three stars.

While I didn't write a review, I did post this as I read it: "The academic/lit crit side of me can recognize that these stories were surely influential in their time and that Beaumont, as man and writer, has a place of importance in the history of the science fiction genre, but the plain old reader in me is finding these tales terribly dated, rather poorly written, and just not all that interesting. I'll finish the book but I doubt I'll be searching out any more by this author." In other words, my take was very similar to Merl's above.

My favorite Beaumont collection is The Howling Man (Charles Beaumont:Selected Stories). The stories were selected and introduced by Twilight Zone alum and other media friends of Beaumont.

Yeah, very weird indeed. Kind of ironic for a guy who wrote for The Twilight Zone and aged rapidly and died under strange circumstances.
