I got my book this morning, just after it came out and I am already almost half way done. I am liking it, but it's just not quite the same as the original Harry Potter books.*Slight spoiler alert* For example I thought the Pumpkin Pasty grenades were incredibly odd, along with the clawed trolley witch. What do you think so far??

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, as its a script and JK only wrote the story, not the actual script, it wouldn't be the same, but I agree. Pasty Pumpkin grenades?!

Ravenpaw/claw~Raise a Glass to Freedom (ravenpawclaw) | 677 comments The trolley witch made my heart jump and the whole thing with what's her face is really scary. Well it scared me because I didn't expect that.

I mean I like it but it just doesn't seem like Harry Potter.

Ravenpaw/claw~Raise a Glass to Freedom (ravenpawclaw) | 677 comments Especially Ron. So out of character!

Yeah I agree. I thought the Trolley Witch was odd too, it just seemed a little out of place I guess. I don't really know how to explain...

Helen Swartwout **SPOILER ALERT**

I give the book a 'C'. It was 'meh' for me. It started out interesting, I do like Scorpius, especially, he's goofy in a fun sort of way, but as soon as it doubled back into the same narrative from the original series the story kind of lost me. I was hoping to move forward from that. A mention of it or a small scene or something, that would be OK, but we just spent 7 books and 8 movies in it, I was hoping for some fresh material. Because it wasn't written by Rowling herself most of the characters didn't 'read' like themselves. McGonagall was probably the closest and Snape was the furthest. As much as I liked seeing him play a straight up good guy, he didn't sound like himself. I even tried 'hearing' Alan Rickman's voice and inflection as I read it and it didn't work. Seeing it performed might help a bit but overall I confess I was disappointed. :(

Ravenpaw/claw~Raise a Glass to Freedom (ravenpawclaw) | 677 comments Yeah...I have to agree with some of that...

message 35: by Saara (new)

Saara Sen-Basuchoudhary Same... It was slightly disappointing. I wish JK Rowling would write another one, not some fan. It read a lot like Fanfic (not that there's anything wrong with that; but still...)

message 37: by Julia (new)

Julia I was kind of sad about how it was, its not that it wasn't good just that I enjoy J.K. Rowlings writing so much and this wasn't like that.

message 38: by Julia (new)

Julia Plus the story was pretty predictable.

Ravenpaw/claw~Raise a Glass to Freedom (ravenpawclaw) | 677 comments I found it completely unpredictable.

message 43: by Ross (new)

Ross | 36 comments I loved cursed child it was awsome, thats not a spoilter just true ^-^

message 44: by Ayla (new)

Ayla I liked Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. It wasn't as good as other Harry Potter books, but it was set in Harry Potter universe, so it's good for me.
Things I liked: I liked that we get to read more about Harry Potter world, I loved Scorpious, I just loved him as character. I also lived how we saw more if Harry and Ginny relationship.

Things I didn't like: I hated how they portrayed Ron. In this book, he only made jokes and looked like he wasn't able to do anything. Harry saying to Albums he wished he wasn't his son. Okay, Harry has a temper, but it's hard to believe that a man who's parents died and didn't have family (first 11 years, after he had Wesleys) would say something like that to his son. I said I liked a book, but it seems little bit unbelievable for Voldemort having a child. I can totally see Bellatrix having child with him, since she was obsessed, but Voldemort wouldn't do anything that wasn't good for him, he didn't know love, so I don't see him thinking his child would want to bring him back, and also he believed he was going to be immortal, si why would he need a child.
Anyway those are my thoughts.
Sorry for bad English.

message 45: by aarifa (new)

aarifa I agree with Kavy and you, Weasley Girl!

message 46: by Chloe (new)

Chloe | 26 comments I don't like the part about the trolley lady at all. :(

message 47: by aarifa (new)

aarifa That part was weird.

message 48: by Isadora (new)

Isadora I liked it. It's not a bad book but I really missed JKs writing :/
The plot is really nice and if she wants to she can continue it. Buuuut I have a discussion here: anyone else founds that some chars are really different ?
I'm a Slyth member and I've never seen Draco the way they showed up in this book. I just think the old char will never get in an "ok relationship" with Harry, Hermione etc. They changed old fellows

message 49: by aarifa (new)
