A Crucible of Souls

Jenna and I are going to read this starting about August 7th. It's book one of a series but for now we are only proposing book one as a standalone.

So Jenna I'm assuming you're going to want a few extra days to finish up Midnight Tides? Let me know I'll start something else until you're ready.

Yes, I'm only on chapter 5...but I could read two books at once.

It's up to you. I always have two going so I can start another and do this one when you're ready.

I'm started Genghis: Birth of an Empire because I need some companion for when I'm too tired for Midnight Tides so let's push it back at least to the 10th since you're also busy with Midnight Tides and Schindler's List.

I am joining you guys as well! This book's description seems so appealing - and I am finding out that more and more I am happier to read about magic and sorcerers!

Yes..........I finished my current book so I might start tonight since I'll need something to read and don't like starting two books so close together. (Jenna screams cheater!!!)

Chapter 2

Chapter 1-2

Agree on the foreshadowing. There was something else I thought was equally as foreshadowing but I went to bed before posting and sadly it escapes me.

We find out about his sister.

The sword scene left me a bit confused. Did the sword shatter to the hilt with all the splinters causing damage or did he actually impale him tapping a magic he didn't know he possessed?

The two farmers story almost sounded like the prologue which made me question if they're really evil. Caitlyn's a peach.....and I wanted to strangle the monks and students.

Chapter 10

(view spoiler)[Interrogation scene reminded me of the scene from The Blade Itself where Glokta is "extracting" a confession because Chancellor Gelyn has similar technique, although not so ruthless as Glokta. (hide spoiler)]

I have to give up for today - I will certainly start the book tomorrow! I am really looking forward to it (and no, I have not read any of the spoilery comments you posted before so it is going to be a super fresh start!) exciting!

(view spoiler)[Savine emerges! I presume he is the main villain (because of the prologue). I want to know more about this group he belongs to, the Deliverers, what kind of entities are they? They appear to be in league with the Five Oceans Mercantile Concern (they seem like a "lovely" bunch). What are they up to? Any thoughts on side characters POV's? (hide spoiler)]

I like her a lot. I keep wondering if Lady Kaitlin's band is in the future and is chasing them as they try to get way just like his grandparents and mother did.

I'm really interested in Vasile and how he ties into it all along with his talent and Amerdam's one random macabre chapter as well. I like how there's all these threads out in the wind to Caldan's main one. How will they converge?

Master Simmon is the first one to see Caldan for what he could be and treat him with some kindness so I like him.

I have to say, I was expecting to open the spoiler part and find something... majestic - instead I found a pearl! Ahah, I just thought it was going to be a long spoiler but it was an amazing detail I really enjoyed too!

Didn't see the wizards having an evil baby factory. Amanda Berry popped into my head instantly (Cleveland kidnapped girl who was freed after a decade of imprisonment by her captors and some of the women had children).

I think the last line saying the barn wasn't burning was portentous and Aiden is going to rue his actions.

I know it's early yet as I'm about halfway through but do people get the sense they will be continuing with the series.? I think I am although I'll probably have to space out the next two books over the course of a few months. So I was considering moving this from standalone to a series folder.

I plan to continue so we can probably do a buddy read of the rest of the series as well.
