Marc walks over to his table wearing a blazer and white skinny jeans. He's wearing his black rimmed glasses that look like typical need glasses. He sits down in a chair and leans back. He slouches slightly, showing that he is in fact a pretty chill guy.
Bea slipped around the corner. Her eyes finally fell upon the Candor table. No one seemed to be around, so she was able to ask questions. Without hesitating any longer, she walked towards the table. When she arrived, she gave a small and shy smile with a small and shy wave. "Hello." She barely whispered. "I'm Bea."
"Hello bea. I'm Marcus. It's nice to meet you." He says. He truly enjoys meeting new initiates. Of course he does if he said it aloud.
"I, umm, just have a few questions, if you're inclined to answer them, that is. I don't want to take time out of your day." At that, she looked around to see if there was anyone else to see the Candor man. Not at the moment apparently, so she didn't need to step aside.
"Ask away. Take all the time you need. I'm in no rush." He says. "Feel free to sit if you'd like." He gestures to a chair in front of the table.
Bea slowly walked over and pulled up a chair. Now was her golden chance! All the questions she wanted to ask. "Wh-What's initiation like?" For some reason, she suddenly had the jitters. What's up with that?
Marc smiles at bea. "So basically you spend time in the faction and are watched to make sure you're honest. We have you spend time in a jury if there is a case open. Then we put you under truth serum. Once you get through the truth serum in front of the entire faction you can become a full status faction member."
She opened her mouth, but no words came out. "And, do you say anything, under the Truth Serum?" She asked. What if all of her secrets just came spilling out? All it would take was a question, just one question for her dangerous secret to come tumbling out.
"You say everything. Your darkest secrets become common knowledge. In order to sustain our faction everyone must be completely free of secrecy. Be completely honest with everyone else." Marc says. He doesn't sugar coat it. He just says it as it is.
Bea felt color drain from her face. "And wh-what if you spill a secret that puts your life in danger?" She asked. So far, Candor wasn't looking like a good choice...
"Well that depends on what kind of secret it is. If it is illegal or against faction laws you will be fairly tried in a court system. If it breaks no laws then the faction will congratulate you for your honesty in the face of danger and protect you from harm in any way possible." He purses his lips.
She had probably said enough. "Right, I was just thinking about this one time when I stole my brother's cookie that he got from his friend. Abnegation aren't supposed to do that you know." Bea hoped he would buy it. She actually did do that, once. But that one secret wasn't her big whopper secret.
"I'm pretty sure if you were under truth serum right now that is not what you would've said. Had you been in the faction and said that you would be in trouble for not being honest. However since you aren't candor now I encourage you to keep asking questions." Marc says. This girl is clearly hiding something.
Bea nodded her head up and down. "I probably would have said that. Or another time, I kept something I should have given to the factionless. It wasn't a pretty sight, the yelling I got afterwards." She shuddered at the thought. "Anyways, what type of jobs are open in Candor?"
"The most prominent of jobs are those of law. Some examples are lawyer, judge, and jury. Of course you also have truth serum administers. Our faction is centered around the court systems though." Marcus says. "And naturally there are trainers."
She nodded, taking everything in. Candor didn't seem like her perfect faction. Partly because of the Truth Serum, and partly because of the jobs. She then began to rack her brain for any more questions. "Are people nice there?" She asked.
"Some. Alot of them are nice but brutally honest. Most blurt out whatever comes into their minds. Some are more reserved but still honest. They tend to not say anything unless someone asks them." Marc says. Although he wants this girl to join he isn't about to make it out to something it isn't. If she joins it should be because she is truly candor.
Bea nodded slowly. "That's, uh, nice." Was all she could manage to say. Candor seemed like a nice faction, but the way he was describing it... "What about sleeping quarters? Are those nice?" If she was to join Candor, she needed every last bit of information.
"Initiates share rooms. They are of course seperated by gender. Once you finish initiation you can move into your own room. Alot of candor born move close to their families." He says.
"And the transfers?" She asked. "Do they just move off and ind someplace?" The plus when talking to a Candor trainer, they always tell the truth!
"After initiation everyone gets assigned apartments. You can choose to have a roommate or move out if you'd like. All roommates must be the same gender. Everyone has apartments in the same general area as the people from their year unless someone moves." Marc answers her question plus more than she asked.
Bea nodded. She tried to think of more questions, but none came to mind. So she stood up and said, "Thank you Marc, it's been a pleasure."
"It was nice to meet you. I hope to see you in candor on choosing day." He says. He stands up politely.
Bea smiled, but not a promising smile. She made a silent promise not to look at him if she didn't choose Candor though. It would break her heart, and he seemed like such a nice person. Bea gave a polite nod and then headed off.
