What I do is a little weird , but I guess give it a go . I pick an adjective , or really any word at all, and then start thinking about a world, plot, or character that would have that trait. Once I have some idea , liking art, I sketch it/him/her. That's when the ideas start blooming and I get really into it . If you're not much of an artist , although always believe , that's what writing towne is for ! Role play it out , or perhaps write a shot paragraph or story introducing your world or character . If it's a world , I like thinking of it as writing one of those intense movie trailers. Put on intense music if you'd like to really get yourself into it.
If you really can't put pen to paper , or hand to keyboard (honestly, I type more than I write), I recommend doing what Pie said .
I hope I haven't completely confused you, and that I've kind of helped you instead . Have a wonderful day ! :)

Exercise! Seriously, get that blood pumping and ideas will follow. It works for me more often than not. All my best ideas came when I was in the gym. Now, keep in mind this is from someone who spends most of his time in front of a computer, so yeah, you know it works. Yeah, I'm definitively not a fit, healthy person. But even a good walk will do wonders. If you need more motivation, there's now a CERTAIN app featuring CERTAIN collectable creatures out there now that'll help get you moving. Just remember not to focus too much on the screen. Writing should always come first.
Great ideas! It depends on what I am writing, but exercise can often help. Sometimes, since my character is a soccer player, I go out and kick the ball around a bit and try describing what I'm doing in my head. This works for most things (doing what you want your character to do, if you're not quite sure how to word it), except if your character is fighting a dragon. Not recommended to do that unless you are a trained professional.
To help me get through writers block, I usually stare at my computer screen or paper for a long time, mentally playing out different actions and the possible repercussions.
Or, if that doesn't work, I might go ride my horse to clear my head. This is usually the best remedy for me, as I feel completely free when I am racing up hills and completely trustoling a half-ton animal.
Or I also start to ramble about completely random things, following every thread of a thought, as I am doing now.

My suggestion is to take a walk, stare out the window, or do something where you can be in your own thoughts and focus.
