Members of City Council (moderators) may talk about what to do with the group, as well as brainstorm discussions, polls, etc!

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe we could have a topic in the Post Your Writing Here! Folder called l

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Sorry. Here's my last post continued...

called Completed Works, where people can post their completed works . By that I mean their final copies, after their works have been revised and reviewed by everyone else .

It will kind of be like Writingtowne's story archive .

message 4: by [deleted user] (new)

That's a good idea! Since you came up with it, you can make the topic. If you called it "Story Archives" that would be cool.

message 5: by [deleted user] (new)

When do you think we should start our first challenge/contest?

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not sure . Maybe we should take a poll and ask when everyone else would want one . It's just that we need to make sure enough people will participate .
Perhaps a poll that would ask whether or not members would submit entries to the writing contests if they were created .

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

And, I'm a little confused :
What does the Writingtowne Plaza folder do? Not do, but what purpose will it serve ? Nope, doesn't sound right either . But you get the message :)

message 8: by [deleted user] (new)

I was thinking that the Writingtowne plaza folder would be where we could do a play on what you would normally find in a town square, like different "shoppes" and things but turn them into something having to do with writing. Maybe you could earn points or something and then "spend" them in the stores there. Or their could be like a "cafe" where it is just general chat. Hope that helps!

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I get it ! :) It's a clever idea having the folders in Writingtowne based on places .

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Where were you thinking of putting the story archives?

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm not sure . The Library would make sense , but so would having it be in the Post Your Writing Here folder as well.

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

The library would be ideal I think.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok. I'll add the topic there.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm thinking about leaving . If I do, definitely request another person to be a MOD. Reason for leaving: busy. Too busy . I'm not sure if it's good for me to be this stressed and then supervise a group as well.
I'm sincerely sorry I'm leaving, after a short while of being a member and MOD.
If I ever have more time I will join again . I hope you'll remember me :)
I just don't want it to shock you if I leave . Best of luck to you, and I sincerely think this group has so much potential. This could be the next 'big thing' on goodreads !
Hope you'll understand :)

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

Awww. :( I know a frowny face isn't very convincing, but I really am sad to see you go! I just added another mod a minute ago, so at least the timing was okay.
Thanks for all the contributions you made to Writingtowne! I know you came up with ideas I wouldn't have thought of, so congrats on that. I completely understand the whole busy part, and that is the reason I myself was tentative about starting a group!
If you are sure, I will remove you as a mod or you can leave the group without that extra step. Thanks again!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

I've thought this through a million times now ! And I'm not sure whether to leave or not . When I wrote the goodbye post it sounded as if I was definitely going to leave, not what I was actually trying to say : that I was still deciding . May I ask that I remain a MOD but come on less (maybe every other day on mornings)?
I understand if my request is a little atrocious , or at least for a MOD.

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

No no, it's fine- I just wanted to wish you luck with whatever you're busy with.

@Riana, since you are now a moderator, and because I will be gone for a week, I have to ask you to try to keep this group busy! I know it might be a lot to ask since you just joined, but I want people to stay here! You don't even have to make any many more discussion topics, just make sure you welcome new members! I'll make it up when I return.

message 18: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
I will try my best to do so.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

Thank you!

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

When will we start the writing contests ? Just a question :)

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Unfortunately , I do not think many members w
are willing to buy/read the book. I do not think it is because they do not want to read it , but because of financial struggles, troubles , etc. Maybe we could talk about the writing style and what we like about it in different popular books that many people have read before , such as Harry Potter.
Or , we could look at authors instead , and the way they write . We could use well known ones ; such as J.K. Rowling, Maya Angelou, or even Dr. Seuss !
Although my ideas do kind of sound crazy.

message 22: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
I like that idea of looking at the way different authors write. And I don't think it's that crazy.
But I have to admit-and I know how popular the books ares-but I haven't read any of J.K. Rowling's work. And I haven't heard of Maya Angelou.
Maybe we could hold a poll or something like that to see what authors we should look at.

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

Good idea ! J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter , and Maya Angelou is a famous poet and inspirational speaker :).
You can create the poll if you'd like , and include some of your own personal choices . We can ask Pie Hi for a nomination as a choice in the poll too.
I would nominate Maya Angelou :) if you aren't familiar with her, a brief Internet search will give you everything you need :D

message 24: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
Alright. I'll think of popular authors. It may take some time, but I'll get it done.
And I just had a light-bulb. We could maybe divide the authors up into poets, short stories, and novels.
I'll get back to you.
Thanks.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Good ideas! I was questioning myself as I decided on a book to read as a group. I, or someone else, should send out a message to everyone letting them know...?
As far as contests go, I think they can start whenever we come up with more ideas. We are gaining members and hopefully contests will draw them in. How about we come up with ideas and then post them here just so we can work on fixing them?

message 26: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
That sounds like a good idea.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

I am about to broadcast a message to everyone explaining the new deal about the book discussions. I will try to put it as diplomatically as possible!
Also, just a question, the "Rough Draft Review" topic seems a lot like roleplay, and not really reviews of rough drafts. Can we change the name or something because we are pretty much only reviewing rough drafts anyway, as those are the ones needing correcting. Can we post topic ideas here first?

message 28: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Hey I just had an idea;
What if we made a discussion called "That Moment When".
It can be funny short things that us as readers and writers can relate to.
For example: "I hate that moment when you finish an amazing book and you don't know what to do now that it's over."

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe we can ask the members there to move it to a topic in Roleplay (make a new topic in Roleplay with what they were writing) and then just make Rough Draft Review a rough draft review ...?

message 30: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
@Pie
I am sorry about not posting the idea here first. I wasn't exactly sure what I should do. I am still trying to figure this out.

@Stephanie
I like that idea a lot.

@Laura
That is a very clever idea.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

@Laura- Good idea! Can someone add that? I have a lot to do today.

@Riana- It's okay, I just like making sure everyone knows what's going on. I don't mind because I've made a ton of mistakes myself.

@Stephanie- Do you mind taking care of that? Thanks. But I was also wondering why we had a topic like that because we aren't really reviewing anything other than drafts. Maybe we could just trash that idea all together...?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Does anyone know where the mod request topic went?

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

@Pie Hi
I'm pretty sure it's still in the Writingtowne Information Center :)

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

@Pie
If you feel the need to trash it that's fine .
@Riana
Since you created the topic , maybe we should leave it up to you .

I'm fine with deleting or keeping it , I just don't want Riana's rough draft comment to go to waste . It really is a good story starter , so I've asked to move it to the Roleplay section .

message 35: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
I think that I will delete the rough draft review. Nobody seems terribly interested in it. Do you want me to wait a while, or should I just delete it?

message 36: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
So for the group book review thingamabobber, I have come up with a list of 32 authors that other members have suggested in the suggestions thread. I will admit that most of the authors are some of the ones that I know of. Do we want to create a poll now, or wait for a few more suggestions?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Thirty two... I think that'll be enough <3

message 38: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
Its 34 now. . . I came up with a few more.
Do we want to wait for Pie? Or should I go ahead with the poll?

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

Let's see what Pie thinks first .

message 40: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
Alright. I'll keep adding to my list then.

message 41: by [deleted user] (new)

How about we start with some very famous ones at first and then add in some other people later? Can you share the list on here? We can pick and choose after that.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay, so this is weird- the mod request topic just disappeared on my group page. Let me know if there are requests!

message 43: by [deleted user] (new)

Okay.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

@Riana- Do you have that list to show me? It would really help progress the group.

Should we do a contest like every 10 members or so? For example- when we get thirty, we do one; then one at forty; one at fifty... And so on?

message 45: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Yeah that sounds great! I love contests! :)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

@Pie
That sounds like a great idea! (Contests)

We haven't completely worked out who will be the judges though . Not the MODs , I don't think , because they should get a chance to enter in the contest too .

message 47: by [deleted user] (new)

I think we should make polls and everyone can vote for the winner, with a rule that you can't vote for yourself.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

Welcome Dakota, a new Moderator!

message 49: by [deleted user] (new)

@Dakota
Welcome! I'm so happy you're a new MOD :)

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Maybe for the writing contests we could hold a poll to decide what it will be .
As for the judge , maybe the last winner could be the new judge and contest decider, on top of the word prize money.
For the judge in the first contest , any MOD volunteer (maybe?) ?
