I'm doing this a bit early so I can ensure I have time to obtain a copy of the book. I'm doing some traveling in the near future, and don't want to be caught short.

Each member can nominate one book that fits our time period. The book should not have been read by the group in the last two years. In order to provide some variety, only one nomination by author as well. So if a title by Dickens was nominated by me, no other titles by Dickens should be nominated. Nomination thread will be closed in one week or when eight books have been nominated - whichever comes first.

Rose Rocha dos Santos (roserocha) | 40 comments I nominate Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

It came second on the last poll and it will fit well in October... ^^

Just a note, seconds of a nomination are not necessary. If the nom, fits the criteria, it's in.

I'd like to read something by Wilkie Collins, but I don't really care which book, since I've never read him before - The Woman in White, No Name, and The Moonstone all look good. I'll tentatively nominate The Moonstone, because it's the shortest, but if anyone would rather read one of the other two instead, or think one of the others have more scope for discussion, that's fine with me too. Here's the link for The Moonstone: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/6...

Lori, I have read two books by Wilkie Collins, The Moonstone and The Woman in White, and enjoyed them both.

Joanna | 1 comments I would like to nominate The Phantom Of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. It was published in 1909, so it is literally on the limit, but it has that Halloween-season essence in it and could be a very interesting read. Frankestein by Mary Shelley also sounds great.

Would you rather read No Name since it would be new for you?

I haven't read them for years( the Wilkie Collins books), so they're all good for me.

There are 3 more nominations available

message 15: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 98 comments I'd like to nominate The Woodlanders by Thomas Hardy.

Kev Ruiz (kevruiz) | 1 comments Loads of great nominations! Am happy to go along with Silas marner, The Moonstone, Woman In White and Vanity Fair. All three happen to be lined up on my shelf waiting to be read in the next few weeks by mere coincidence! Diane also nominates The Woodlanders which I just read for the first time last week - A Must Read there too!

Good suggestions for October (Halloween, All Saints Day, End of Summer, ...)! They would be rereads for many of us, but they are stories that can reveal new insights/speculations with each read, imho.
