Thank you Laura for this amazing idea! I give all the credit to her .
That Moment When... is a fun thing where writers can share the most agonizing and spectacular moments they have as a writer (or reader).
Simply say : That moment when...
And go from there ! I'm sure that we , writers and readers, will find some things to be all to relatable .

That moment when you realize that you spent the past few years of your life making a book perfect--and then you find a major mistake in your work once you have it published.

message 3: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh no... :)

message 4: by Riana, That One (new)

Riana Rain | 110 comments Mod
Yup. Totally happened to me. . . It's a glaring mistake that I totally missed until I held the book in my hand. It's just awful.

message 5: by Eli (new)

Eli | 55 comments Yeah, that sucks...something I probably can't mention here. I'll leave it to your imagination. But look on the bright side, if your proofreaders and editors didn't notice, maybe other people won't as well? Maybe. Hopefully. Kinda...

Also, for the topic...

That moment when you write a story with plot/imagery/theme/etc. that you think is clear as day, but nobody else gets it.

Yeah, hopefully nobody will notice. . .

Topic:

That's a good one. Totally sums the entire story of my life.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep.

That moment when you really want to love a book, but end up hating it and stop reading half way through .

And also...

That moment when you post a "that moment..." statement but nobody else relates.

message 8: by Eli (new)

Eli | 55 comments Yeah, I've done that first one. Twice. Once was The Eye of the World, and the second one was Game of Thrones. Both of those are great, well respected books that part of well respected series, but I...I just couldn't get into them. I won't say I hated them, I just didn't love them as much as other people do. Maybe I stopped reading too soon or something, since I stopped both fairly early. Some day I might try reading them again. Maybe.

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Same here.

That moment when a friend recommends a book that they really liked, but you read it and hate it.

message 10: by Valerie (last edited Aug 18, 2016 10:31AM) (new)

Valerie Ravenscroft (valerieravenscroft) Haha that's an awesome topic!! ^_^

So far, I can relate to @Riana's Glaring Mistake (I've found that ALL my books have mistakes I notice only once they're published... so I've learned to let it go :P) and I can relate to Stephanie's Wanna-Love-But-Hate thing.
I'm reading the Night Circus now and, like Eli, I'm not gonna say I hate it cause it still has nice parts and all, but it's nowhere near as good as I had built it up to be in my head....

And for the game:
The moment when... you carefully plan a story, write a scene that would link A to B but your character decides that it would be more fun to go explore W....

And in that same vein:
The moment when... you find yourself talking to your screen, hoping your character will hear you and get in line with the established plan! :P

message 11: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh my goodness that happens to me way too often . I get way too caught up in the story and suddenly I realize I've completely destroyed/neglected/ruined the perfect plot that I've built up !

Valerie Ravenscroft (valerieravenscroft) Stephanie Avery wrote: "Oh my goodness that happens to me way too often . I get way too caught up in the story and suddenly I realize I've completely destroyed/neglected/ruined the perfect plot that I've built up !"

Haha the writer's elation and bane, all rolled up in a single moment! :P Like "Wheee! This is much fun!!...... OMG, what am I doing?!"

message 13: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault My characters have a mind of their own. I'm mostly an improvisor, though, so it's not too bad for me. I usually have a vague idea of where the story is going and just let my characters do what they want until they get really off the path, then steer them the right way.

message 14: by [deleted user] (new)

If I don't have a plan, the story drags on forever ... And forever.... And forever.
:) I once wrote a story , worked diligently for months, and then realized that it wasn't going anywhere . Wait, that should be a "that moment when..." .

That moment when. . . you forget that amazing idea for a plot twist or story and you can't remember it.

message 16: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Ravenscroft (valerieravenscroft) @Stephanie: haha totally know what you mean

@Riana: OMG! That always get me in such a foul mood!!

message 17: by [deleted user] (new)

That moment when you have a plan for everything and then somehow you write a whole chapter in the wrong spot.
That has happened like 5 times for my book anyway...

That moment when you finally get to hold your published book in your hands

message 19: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Ravenscroft (valerieravenscroft) That is a good one, Riana!
In the same direction: the moment when you get your first "Yes" after a string of "No" :)

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

@Valerie
Haha, that would call for celebration !
@Riana
I can only imagine what a wonderful feeling that would be! Saying, "This is what I've been working on and it's finally done!"

That moment when you sit down at your desk , tell yourself: I'm going to write! , then do nothing for an hour because you don't know what to write.
No, just me? Okay.

message 21: by Dakota (new)

Dakota That moment when you have this awesome idea for a book, maybe even for an entire series, and have absolutely no clue how to write it

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Haha all these are so relatable it's kinda scary! Except the published book one (sorry, but I have yet to do so!)

message 23: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Ravenscroft (valerieravenscroft) @Stephanie: haha actually, when I got my first "Yes", I froze in terror. No's are easy, they imply your life won't change, but a 'Yes'...
And I can totally relate to your TMW! haha
But for it's TMW you sit in front of your computer to write and think 'I'll just make a quick round on the social medias so I can really concentrate on my writing' and then two hours later, you're still scrolling down Facebook! :p

message 24: by Eli (new)

Eli | 55 comments That moment when you know you should be writing something, but your brain has checked out for the day.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

@Eli
Absolutely, especially if you have a job as an author or writer . (Sadly, I don't)

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

That moment when you say : "I'll just take a quick break from writing!" , and then spend three hours taking a 'quick break' and NOT writing.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

That moment when you want to write but then glimpse at the chapter you wrote before, seeing about a million typos *the mood disappears*

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Lol that happens to me way too much , then I spend about an hour trying to fix all those errors !

message 29: by Dakota (new)

Dakota That moment when

"I don't like this word, let's use this one. That's better, but now the sentence is awkward, let's try this. . ."

Around 15 minutes later you've perfected the sentence and now that great idea for the next section is gone

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep. :)

message 31: by Eli (new)

Eli | 55 comments That moment when you think a book you've published will do great after getting a few reviews, but it still goes nowhere.

little dumpling (littledumpling) That moment when you realise you're in love with a fictional caracter...

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

That moment when you have a whole plan for a story and then suddenly find you have no motivation to write it.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

That's happening to me right now...

message 35: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault OMG. Heather, I am so glad it isn't just me!

message 36: by little dumpling (new)

little dumpling (littledumpling) @Laura, I'm glad you've joined the team.

message 37: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault That moment when creativity sparks just as your drifting off to sleep
(or in the middle of the night).

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Yep.

message 39: by [deleted user] (last edited Sep 08, 2016 02:09PM) (new)

Yes! And then I want to write it down so I don't forget but don't want to disturb anyone else.

message 40: by Laura (new)

Laura Guilbault Haha. For me it's not so much as disturbing other people, but whether or not I'll be awake enough to find pen and paper.
