I'm turning 30, but I read books for all ages, from picture books up through "grown-up" books. My favorite genre tends to be mystery, but I'm much more genre-flexible with sequential art than with regular novels.

I am a slow reader, and have to stay fluent in current Kids/Teen Literature for my job, so I may not be able to read according to the collective schedule very often, but will be lurking!
I do have a serious special interest in graphic novels/comics for adults, and read a lot of those in between all the kid lit. I love the medium particularly for autobiographical content - you can get into someone's head on a much deeper level if they're not limited exclusively to text when they tell their story!

I'm glad you joined! I'm so jealous of your job.
Re. autobiographical content, I totally agree. I also don't have much patience for bios/autobios in text form, but graphic ones give me an opportunity for learning about important people without losing my patience or giving up.

My name is Bee. I am currently in high school but I definitelly spent more time reading than studying. Even though some could say I learn a lot through reading.
My interest include learning languages (currently I am learning 3), reading, movies and tv series (especially animated) and writing. I enjoy writing poetry a lot, but also reviews and stuff like that.
I decided to join this club (and I am happy that I did so) because even though being offered a lot of clubs full of people willing to discuss manga with me, I missed somebody willing to talk about comics other than mainstream comic hero genre.
I enjoy reading simple comics with clean but interesting artwork and more importantly with easy to follow story line, because my english is not that good and I get bored easily when there is a lot of long segments written in a way that is hard to understand for me.
(I am also going to post this link here, because I am currently obsessed with this site and want to find friends willing to read my cringey tries to write in english: https://lettrs.com/wwwee2347)

My name is Shequeta and I'm a big fan of graphic novels and comics. Joined the group because there aren't many like it and I'd like to have a place to learn about and discuss new graphic novels.
I'm a filmmaker in Hollywood with multiple short films up on YouTube and Vimeo. After spending so many years seeing no real diversity in Hollywood or in the comic book industry I decided to create my own with my Korean-African American graphic novel series, Rayven Choi.
We've released two books so far through Shero Comics and the 14-minute short film that introduces the book has been selected into multiple film festivals and was released this month on Vimeo On Demand in honor of Black History Month.
If interested, you can check out my Rayven Choi on Amazon, iBooks, Comixology and on the website www.sherocomics.com
Looking forward to chatting with you guys!

Welcome, Shequeta, and congratulations on your series! We're glad to have you join us. Make sure you vote on our book for March!

Welcome! I'm sure your art background will give you some additional insights/perspectives! You picked a great time to join us, since for May we're doing a "classic" of the genre.

I've fell in love with graphic novels after reading The Crow in high school, and it only deepened after reading The Sandman series. A few of the series that I enjoy and am (slowly) collecting are Lucifer, Fables, Hellblazer (but not the reboot), and Preacher. I am currently actively reading Saga and Monstress. I want to read Scott Pilgram and some more one-offs like A Contact with God or Stardust (I know that one is more illustrated book than graphic novel, but Neil Gaiman is my fav!)

Welcome, Nicky! It sounds like you read some different types of graphic novels than I usually do, so it'll be nice to get your perspective on our choices!
For June, we've got a one-off and an anthology; you can read either/both/neither. Have fun!

Glad to have you, Donovan!

Welcome, Russell! If you've read any of our past books, feel free to drop your comments on them in their threads. And I'm always open to ideas/suggestions/etc.!

Thanks I will do that :)

I found during the pandemic that I couldn't focus as much on full length novels and GNs were the best way for me to continue reading. I've managed to get back into novels now, but GNs are for life!
This book club is a great way to find options I don't normally read or discover new favourites! I just sometimes take a bit while I convince my librarians to buy another GN for me. XD

I love we have so many library staff! I was a YS assistant and am currently about halfway through my MLIS program (hence why sometimes I don't get the book read or don't get the messages sent on time).
SuperKimbit, I also often turn to GNs when I can't focus as well; the shorter length is easier to manager and the art can suck you in faster than text.

Welcome, Cordelia! I also only got into reading comics as an adult... and now they're my favorite format/genre to read! We try to vary the reading material and select a range of genres within the format so we can all expand our reading tastes and try new things. 🙂

Hi, Evy, and welcome to the group!
I have always enjoyed comic books since I was able to read as several members of my family (including my dad) were avid comic book readers. As an adult I now enjoy a variety of different graphic novels more so than comics. My favorites tend to be realistic middle-grade graphic novels. I'm not a big fan of fantasy or scifi graphic novels but since I try to keep an open mind, I will tolerate them.
Like you, what I like most about graphic novels is that they are very quick to read. However, I also appreciate the extensive time the author/illustrator takes to complete the works, sometimes several years. It's a long process!
