I follow Julian to his tent, leaving Alex staring after me. I smile reassuringly at him and he seems like to relax a bit. "You still love him," Julian says. It's not a question. I am silent. He shakes his head, my silence giving him the answer. "I--" "Don't," he says. "Just don't. It's fine. I understand." He seems to be talking more to himself than me. I scowl, suddenly angry. He doesn't even know what I was going to say. "No," I snap, "I don't think you do understand." He stops pacing and glances at me, eyes wide. I know. I surprised myself. "I did love him, Julian. In the past. But you"--I reach out and clasp my arms around his neck, pulling his head down so I can press our foreheads together--"you're my future. My now. I love you, Julian. I love you. No one, not even Alex, can change that." He stares at me, hope and disbelief warring across his handsome features. "You love me?" I toss back my head and laugh. "Of course, you big dummy." I feel my face soften as I add in a much quieter voice, "Of course I love you." He smiles then, brilliant and unyielding, and crushes his lips to mine. I gasp against his mouth and he uses my inaction to slip his arms around my waist and pull me closer and tighter against him. I tangle my hands in his hair and kiss back, matching his fervent manner. The world is spinning and swirling and I'm dizzy and in love, so so In love.
