Yay! I've read about 50 pages. It's different from what I expected but it's quite interesting.

I didn't start it. My husband had his surgery today and as it turns out he's going to have to have radiation therapy as well. We'll know more about that after he has his consultation.

I'll start as soon as I can, but I realized it's the end of the month and I still have 3 books to finish for the two-month challenge by Friday. Ugh...AND i work our varsity and JV football games which is from 4:45 until about 9:30. It's our Homecoming game.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about your husband Vicki. I hope he'll get better. Just concentrate on your family and do not feel guilty about these buddy reads. I totally understand.

My thoughts about the first 10 chapters:


This book is different from what I expected it to be but I still find it quite interesting.

This book seems to tell a story (view spoiler)[ of the women of one family through several generations. I've read several this type of books but they haven't been YA and in all honesty this does not feel like a YA book to me either. Of course, the leading character is a teenage girl but so far the story has concentrated on her mother and her grandmother's past. Actually Ava (the leading character) was just born about the halfway of the book. (hide spoiler)]

Anyway, I still think the stories of (view spoiler)[ these women are interesting. They all have their own peculiarities and struggles. In fact, all of their stories are somehow very sad but somehow very beautiful. In addition, I like how the fates of several side characters are revealed throughout the story, all of them sad but interesting, too. (hide spoiler)]

I (view spoiler)[ feel very bad for Gabe and Viviane as they both keep waiting in vain for the person they love. Also Emilienne losing all her family was so sad and it's a shame how it resulted in her not being able to show affection for her daughter. At least Viviane was able to fully love her children despite her own unrequited love. (hide spoiler)]

I love that (view spoiler)[ Ava was born with wings. I don't know a lot about her story yet but I guess I'm soon about to find out. I have a feeling it's not going to be the happiest story either but I can't wait to learn more about Ava's life. (hide spoiler)]

I finished and I actually ended up really loving this book. At first I thought it's really not my favorite type of a book but I really grew to like it!

As I expected (view spoiler)[ Ava's story wasn't the happiest one but it was great to see how she grew and changed from an isolated girl into a teenager who took charge of her own life. It's unfortunate how things turned out for her. I had a bad feeling about Nathaniel Sorrows from the very beginning and I most certainly wasn't wrong. He was basically out of his mind and the room with the dead birds kind of creeped me out. (hide spoiler)]

Even though the story was very dark (view spoiler)[ most of the characters' individual stories had a beautiful ending. I'm happy Viviane and Gabe finally found each other and that Viviane and Emilienne both got free of the past that had been haunting them for so many years. As for Ava, I'm not entirely certain whether she lived or died. The ending scene where she appeared to look like an angel could have indicated either one. (hide spoiler)]

This story was an excellent description of (view spoiler)[ human nature and all its flaws but also of hope and love and some things magical and supernatural. I loved it how all the characters were far from perfect, each fighting their own battles and demons and embracing their own strenghts in their pursuit to find happiness. In this story the characters live and learn by making mistakes, sometimes mistakes that can't be unmade again. But most of the time there is a tiny ray of sunshine guiding them through. I loved both the plot and the characters and the more I learned about them, the more I got into this story. (hide spoiler)]
