Now that I've finished reading A Monster Calls, I know it isn't the Halloween book I expected. WOW. Will any teen be prepared after grabbing it for a Halloween type read? I wasn't prepared, but as an adult I can handle the mature theme.
Thank you for suggesting this book, Siera.
I'm new to the group. I voted for and have started reading A Monster Calls. I look forward to the discussion.Nice to "meet" you all!

Hi, Brandon. I hope to get to this month's book! Last month's also sounded good to me, but, I missed reading that one, with all the back to school hoopla here. You will see some good choices from the past if you review the list! I have enjoyed following along with this group that Seira leads and I hope you do, as well. Alicia
Hey All. I just started reading it last night. It's a little different than what we've read recently. Connor's world seems to be quite tumultuous. Can't wait to read more.
I'm glad we're reading this now--the movie looks good and has lots of big names in it but it feels like one I'll be happy to have digested as the author intended rather than the made-for-the-big-screen version. Anyone planning to see it or already have?

Welcome Brandon! You joined us on a dark one, but we've read a nice variety over the last year+ and try to mix it up. Looking forward to hearing what you think about our September book.

Thank you for the welcome! I just finished A Monster Calls. It brought tears to my eyes at the end, but I loved it! I've actually had a lot of experience with this for I worked as a Nursing Assistant on a Pulmonary Step-down unit at Duke University Hospital while in undergrad. I was going to be a Nurse but switched to Healthcare Admin.
Excellent read! Looking forward to next month's selection. :)

Make sure to bring a whole box of kleenex with you...
The book is phenomenal & I think the studio did a fabulous job bringing those characters to life on the big screen with Patrick writing the screenplay.
I am reading an adult book with a similar subject. "Lily and the Octopus" by Steven Rowley. A Man and his dog who has cancer.
I gave this book a 5 star when I originally read it. I'm looking forward to digesting it again so it's fresh in my mind and discussing it.
Wow. Just...wow. That was not at all what I was expecting. Just had a huge cry while reading it on my lunch break. Gonna have to take a breath now before going back to deal with the public, because I feel like my heart just broke. Wonderfully crafted book.
Loved it! A quick read. Sad on so many levels, relationship wise. If the book triggered tears, I am concerned for myself at the movie.
Beautifully written. The illustrations were fresh and evocative. I like many books. I loved this one.
I cried in my school lunch line and had to put it down XD I was a little bored by the beginning- didn't feel like there was much to be interested in. However, after that I was blown away!
