At the bottom of 225 Tindall argues for a direct correlation between the Ondt and the Gracehopper from Chapter XIII (III.1) and the answer to question 11 in VI (I.6).He claims that the results of both "are the same. Exposing his "other," Shaun-Jones exposes himself."
The interesting thing here is that if true it dismisses the theory that 2 chapters of Book 1 directly correspond to 1 chapter of Book 3. I guess we couldn't have been so lucky to have everything laid out that straight-forward.
Perhaps the chapters don't align exactly but maybe all the references in XIII (III.1) to chapters VII (I.7) and VIII (I.8) occur before the story of the Ondt thus keeping not the chapters but the order of events in reverse order.
Joyce himself made several references to the fact that in Book III time was reversed and the very fact that Shaun progressively gets younger throughout Book III holds up.
Book III time-reversal of course is a big plus in the idea of Books I and III being linked.
