CraftyChara | 2121 comments The human(s) and robot(s) are friends or will become friends

They can, but don't necessarily have to be prejudice towards each other. Humans towards robots and/or robots towards humans

Examples
A Boy and His Bot A Boy and His Bot by Daniel H. Wilson
Odyssey Odyssey (Isaac Asimov's Robot City, #1) by Michael P. Kube-McDowell

CraftyChara | 2121 comments I have read it it's one of my favorite book.Cinder did deal with a lot of racism from her stepmother for being a cyborg. In this world people think that it is unfair to use robotics to help extend theirs lives. Also Cinder has a nice relationship with her android friend Iko.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress While Mike isn't a robot, he IS a computer. One of the best books that I've ever read. Standalone book.

Norby, the Mixed-Up Robot (this is a series)

This might not be exactly what you're thinking of, but I couldn't help but think of Galatea 2.2, where a man embarks on an experiment to teach a computer how to think like a human being. It's really wonderful. I loved it, that is.

message 11: by CraftyChara (new)

CraftyChara | 2121 comments The Silver Metal Lover. Thank you.
Galatea 2.2. Hey, I like robot books, so whatever you or anybody else suggest I'll check it out.

SBC (essbeecee) | 1594 comments Not the main plot, but definitely a feature in Jo Walton's Thessaly trilogy, starting with The Just City.

It doesn't have to be the main plot. Thank you for the suggestion.

Melanti | 330 comments If you don't mind a heavily ornate writing style, there's Valente's Silently and Very Fast. (Has fairy tales imagery)

This isn't quite what you're asking for, but you might be interested in The Lifecycle of Software Objects by Ted Chiang.

Jessica (jessicalynfox) | 167 comments The Alchemy of Stone

A wind up girl in a fantasy world whose owner gives her independence to roam, but limits her by not giving her the key to wind herself. Great book.

message 29: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessicalynfox) | 167 comments vN this one will takes robot independence to a whole new level where robots can reproduce. Also the main character is starved by her “granny” in order to keep her young. Granny intends to use her to basically destroy the world. Lots or racism between peeps and bots. There is abuse of robots by humans, and if I am not mistaken, vice versa

If you like humour with your stories, check out Spider Robinson and his Callahan's Place books. There is a giant (well 7 ft or so tall) alien cyborg who shows up in a couple of the stories, as well as a trilaterally symmetrical cyborg who shows up in only 1 story. Plus of course, there is Solace--aka the Internet--who has become self aware and joins the gang at one or the other of the various Places. It's been a while since I read the books, so I don't remember who shows up when in them. (Oh, the books are collections of stories set in one or the other of the various Places rather than a single story running the length of the book.) But still, thought I'd suggest them to you.

Gillian Wiseman (gillianwiseman) | 241 comments Isaac Asimov's "I Robot" short story collection is the original classic about human and robot interaction. Just about any of his SF novels will incorporate robots, and he always dealt with them as "other humans" even when they were "only machines". I, Robot
