Read this whole series last year, so will stop in on the threads. I will be reading the 4th book Goldenhand this Month
im about two thirds of the way through now - Started it early after I couldnt get into The Darkness That Comes Before. Thoroughly enjoying it with some great characters, in particular Mogget the sardonic cat. World building wise its a little loose in giving exacting detail to the world around but the plot and characters are keeping me hooked
I started way early, and finished it and the second book, Lirael, a couple days ago. I enjoyed it, but it seemed very derivative to me. This was my first reading of it as well, so I didn't have any nostalgia to affect my opinion. Death and the gates are neat and all, but the different levels don't seem to serve any purpose other than color. I also grew tired of hearing how dangerous the bells were without them ever really backfiring. Finally, the distinction between good and evil was way too stark for my taste, but I guess that could be accounted for by the fact that it is YA.
That being said, the story flowed well, and the characters were interesting. I'll finish out the series for sure.
I'm hoping to get to it at the end of the month, school is so busy at the moment I'm really behind on my books.

In that book there is a lot of grey area and we see how someone can make the wrong choices for (maybe) decent intentions. It's still YA, but has "right" decisions that lead to negative consequences and "wrong" decisions that can save people but are on a seriously slippery slope.
I started it yesterday, I'm already 30 % through. I have some feelings similar to Femmy. I think this is a little bit YA. Although I will try to finish it. On the good part, I like the sabriel character and I like the way the death is treated and represented!
