Introduce yourself!

My name is Dino, I am an IT project manager, and I love reading, and learning in general. I didn't learn too much before I was 40 years ago, but I am gaining momentum now. Since I am already middle aged, so it's important to also learn "how to learn effectively". It's very nice to meet you and possibly make friends with you.
Dino
Hi everybody! My name is Theodoor. I am Dutch but live in Taichung now for about 8 years. As I love to read, I joined Goodreads. Right now, I am reading "After the Ecstacy, the Laundry", by Jack Kornfield. I am only halfway, but I think it's great already. Kornfield really describes the daily troubles of a spiritual life very well.

I picked up that book from City library (Chinese translation), but I didn't finish it, I guess enlightenment is not too much an interest in me, but I am curious about origins of human beings as well as the universe, on the other hand.
Hopefully, readers in Taiwan can meet sometime.

Yay, another Jack Kornfield reader here--I read a Path With Heart, a book filled with a lot of wisdom.
I'm currently tackling Joseph Campbell's Hero with a Thousand Faces--on the universality of human myths, it's also very intriguing.
Just thought I would share one of the many 2015 list of "best books" with you guys--I always liked the NPR version since you can filter it with many different categories, check it out:
http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2015/
I second Dino's idea of a group meet in person someday!
Cheers,
YM
Wow, cool! Yes, I also think "A Path with Heart" is one of Kornfield's best.
Talking about the history of man and the universality of myths, one of the books on my shelf to read soon, is Graham Hancock's "Magicians of the Gods". Hancock has made it his life's mission to defy the fixed thought of history and archaeology by looking for evidence in myths and ancient monuments, of a lost human civilisation. Great stuff!
"The Hero with a Thousand Faces" is indeed one of the classics. Very inspiring.

Hi, I'm Chuan. (pinyin as "Quan"), I'm an active user here I guess. was using another online bookshelf called aNobii but then jumped to goodreads. The platform is more simple, the visual effects and the framework looks more comfortable to me.

welcome to the group!
What's everyone reading these days? I just picked up A Strangeness in my mind by Orhan Pamuk
Hello all,
I'm obsessed with reading. Father. Greek-Canadian. Been her for 5+ years so far. Live up near Danshui.
I've read 24 of 50 books this year in my reading challenge! I read on my Kindle and buy books when I can but you guys know how difficult it is to buy cheap books here.
I'm very interested in history books and historical fiction.
If you're interested in trading or buying books I've finished reading, message me.
NOTE: I just started reading A Strangeness in My Mind too. All the books on this years Man Booker International Shortlist are great this year. I've already read The Four Books, The Vegetarian, and A General Theory of Oblivion.

I'm an American living in Taichung. Married with 2 daughters, ages 10 and 8. We've been here for almost 5 years.
I'm a computer programmer and work from home. I mostly read books using the Kindle app on my Android tablet. Also enjoy listening to audiobooks and podcasts.
Regards,
Kevin

I'm based in Taipei and have been in Taiwan since 2011. Have done lots, especially in the media and environmental sectors. I recently left an international marketing and branding firm, where I worked as a strategist. Have always loved reading but struggled to find time for it. Now that I'm getting ready for B-school, I've been reading more and would love to share some good reads with everyone sometime!
Cheers,
S

My names is Soraya but I do prefer people call me Sora (it sounds like sky in japanese).
I was active in Hsinchu Book Club (former NCTU Book Club), you can join if you like https://www.facebook.com/groups/nctu....
but I feel more confortable in goodreads.
I am from Nicaragua, an Information Engineering student (will graduate on June), living in Tainan.. Currently I am reading "The Master Switch: The Rise and Fall of Information Empires" by Tim Wu and 4 more books. I got bored if I read only one book :), not sure if I will complete my challenge, but I enjoy the readings. I've got a kindle this year and that helped me a lot to increase the numbers of book to read :D, however I do like to buy physical books from the second hand bookstore sometimes or just go there to take a look :P
What else? I like to code, coffee, popcorn, the countryside of Taiwan, and mandarin.
I have no joined any book club in Tainan yet (I even do not know if it exists). Maybe in the future if you have time we can some set up meetings out of Taipei.
Nice to meet you!
hi Sora!

I knew Pottermore since I started to read Harry Potter...
But you know, it somehow changed into another version like a year ago, I think the old one is better. You could have your own unique wand, practice many kinds of charms you had seen in the book, and make potions with some magical stuff. Pottermore was much cooler before :(
--Though you got to discover more about the story now!
Do you join Pottermore too?
You know what! I'm in Gryffindor and I got a "rat" for my Patronus(which made me kind of dumb...=_=)

haha... i'm a Gryffindor too... but my patronus is a Newfoundland... a big dog... oh well...

Anyone recommend any Taiwanese authors?
I also dabble in writing by the way but I hope it's not rude to overpromote myself... Well if curious feel free to check out my blog site for some of my writings and reviews:
rayhecht.com
Back to me, my name is Diane, I read a bit of everything that is well written or entertaining. My book list is 95% fiction, heavy on fan fiction, romance and science fiction. I also read a lot of on-line works 網路小說, that's not listed on goodreads.
I've started to putting some of the Chinese books on goodreads, but so few Taiwanese/Chinese user use this site, my effort seems pretty useless. But, hey someone's got to start some where right?
