Ross Poldark question

According to the book he loves Elizabeth very much. It's probably the only selfless emotion he has.

Agreed that George loved Elizabeth, but it was more for her ancient name and grace as a gentlewoman than for herself. In addition, George is particularly gratified that gaining Elizabeth really hurts Ross.

George loved Elizabeth from the time they were young, but she had always seemed unattainable to him. Marrying her was the proof he needed that he really had risen above his family's working class background and become a "gentleman."
