What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this book in the late 90s when I was in junior high at the library. Unfortunately it never occurred to me to note down the name and author of the book at the time. It's basically a YA version of Meet Joe Black. Death comes to the world of the living as a high school student who falls in love with another high school student. At the end of the book, Death leaves the girl he is in love with and I think ends with him taking away her memories but leaves her a rose (I think). I vaguely remember the cover of the book having a rose and maybe a mask on it as well. I hope someone knows this because this book has stuck with me for almost 2 decades and I would love to re-read it and see if it's as good as I remember considering I don't remember that much about it.

Think this is too new to be your book, but Existence has a similar plot.
