Harry worked on his own, even when he was partners with Kiz and Jerry Edgar when he was with the LAPD. He would go off on his own to chase a lead and not tell them about it until the next day. Now he is working on his own again, even though he doesn't consider himself a private investigator.
My thoughts to a tee, Robin. It was also telling that he hadn't developed many loyalties that he could use privately. Without his badge, or the idea of one, people weren't opening up to him.
It seemed to be a revelation to him in that moment. Lindell also implied there was a bit of selfishness in that behavior. I thought maybe he was right about that on some level.

Yes, Harry seemed surprised to be called on his behavior. It's almost like he didn't realize that he cut his partners out of the picture when he went off to investigate on his own. And, I think Lindell was correct about the selfishness in what Harry has been doing. (It probably isn't going to stop Harry though.)
