The Dragonbond Program discussion

Where the dragons and humans collaborate to fly together or to help each other in such means as they can.

Veratri glided down from on high to the academy yard. It wasn't a class session just yet, but she'd arranged to meet with her Bond, Damon, to hang out together. She didn't approve of his dark look or style, but he had quite a personality, she could grant him that. Honestly, though, he needed to try to fit in a little more or her person would be the only person with no friends.

Damon strode out into the clearing, his eyes glinting in the sun like a creature of the dark. Posture tight, and nearly stone like he crossed his arms and waited until he spotted Veratri. He waited for her, without acknowledgement, to land on the ground.

((Damon?))

Veratri tilted her head and landed hurriedly, not exactly nailing the landing, but it wasn't too bad and she didn't mind so much. "You're later than normal."

((AHHHH!!! Sorry, so used to using him.))

"Had some business to wrap up," Damon responded dismissively. "Nothing you should worry about, Veratri." He looked up at the majestic creature, his eyes dilating as her scales reflected the sun in a brilliant array of fire. "You ready?"

"First of all, any of YOUR business is something to worry about," she said sharply, guessing that he'd been in trouble for something and didn't want her to find out. "And I've been ready," she said, "For ages." Veratri smiled, as if not wanting to anger him, but rolled her eyes in a desperate motion.

"You're too kind." Damon answered blatantly, the sarcasm in his voice thinly veiled. Without answering her provocation, he strode up to her side and climbed up into the saddle. Then thinking better of it, he added "just so that you don't throw me off your back when we're up there, I was in the library." He was a terrible lyre.

"Oh, you liar, what would your mother say?" she chuckled grimly. "Do I smell blood on you," she asked, easing gently into the wind, the air seemingly lifting her wings the instant they were spread.

Damon winced, darn that blasted nose of hers. "Merely a whiff of the horseradish I had this morning. Aweful smelling stuff it is."
He couldn't help but relax around her, letting down the shield he usually used around everyone else. That irritated him almost as much as her uncanny ability to smell everything with freakish accuracy.

"I know blood," she said, "I've smelled you on a bad day," she sighed. "Horseradish my tail. Why don't you trust me?"

"It's not that I don't trust you," Damon assured her, "rather it's my firm knowledge that you'd disapprove..." He trailed off, gripping the scale at the small of her neck. "We should try combat, and maneuvered dives today. We might need it soon." He fingered her scales, realizing too that he didn't want to hurt her with knowledge she could do without.

"I disapprove more of you lying to me and covering it with horseradish," she snorted, rather unhappily. "I trust you'll survive, as always. Why don't you try to make friends?" she asked. "All right, dives it is," she said, sloping into a frightening stoop.

"Friends are just enemies veiled from your eyes." He shouted, pulling out his long sword while trying to grip her scaly sides with his legs. "You can make the friends, I'll keep them from killing us." He said, twirling the sword in mid air and testing out how how far his range was.

((Gotta go to Youth Group))

"Is that what I am?" she asked, feeling hurt slightly. Not that she'd trade her person for any other in the academy, but sometimes he was horrible to get along with. "I only want you to be happy."

(( *Sobbing* Farewell... Have fun!))

He strained to hear her over the pound of the wind rushing across his face. "The friend maker?" His hand slipped from it's hold on her scale, and for a moment he glided up on her back. With a quick swish of the sword he shoved his weight back down, grabbing a hold of it again. "Yes, you're the more sociable one of the pair of us. I don't need anyone else but you. "

((I guess we're not going, no one was ready and it starts in 4 minutes and it's a half hour drive.))

"Am I just an enemy veiled from your eyes?" she asked, growling lightly and shooting a jet of flame down below at the scorched practice field. "You judge too quickly."

((Oh my! That's sort of a problem... Well, at least I get to keep you for a little longer xD))

"Of course not, I wouldn't count you as a friend." He said as she pulled up from their dive, enabling for him to speak without yelling over the wind. "You're more like- the breath in my lungs. The heart in my body. Without you, I'd be nothing more than a shell. Incapable of thought or real power. A friend is certainly not what I'd think of you as, you're way more than that." He concluded, his voice strong and clear against the now calm slide around them.

((Now they want me to go when we'll be over 40 minutes late. I am SO not.))

She leveled out, sincerely touched. She gave off a shudder of heat to keep him warm. "Thank you."

((Will it be over by then??))

Damon patted her side, and acknowledged her thanks with a warm silence.

((It goes on for like two hours. But I think I made a fool of myself the first time and I don't want to repeat the process. I'll just sit in my room reading my bible. Social-ness stinks.))

"You're the flame in my nose and the wind in my wings," she said, hoping it sounded half as poetic as his did. "I'd be a sniveling snake without you, Damon," she said lightly, in a very sweet, soft tone.

((Ahhh, yes. That would be sort of awkward :3 When was the last one? Maybe the next time they wont remember it,lol))

Damon laughed, she failed at metaphors but he felt the love behind her words. "It'd be a little hard to go flying if you were a sniveling snake, wouldn't it?" He grinned slightly, "you hungry?"

((It's weekly, but I haven't been able to go because of school. *blames it all on school*))

She bobbed her head. "I could eat an entire village," she joked, giving a rumbling chortle, swinging around back to the academy.

((Of course... That's what I do with my youth group too, me: "Oh yeah, SOOOOO MUCH SCHOOL. SOO MUCH TO DO. SOOO MUCH STUFF. I just couldn't possibly...))

He nudged her with an ankle, "not a bad idea actually." He grinned.

((:D It seems much too much of an obligation like school rather than actually sitting down with God and a bible on your lap.))

"Oh, stop it, you and your flattery." She was small, for a dragon, and eating a village would be a fantastic achievement.

((Idk, maybe for now.))

"It was worth a thought," Damon shrugged his hair tossing in the wind. "Wheres the pavilion, or cafeteria?"

((Shoot, I need to make one of those!))

She smiled. "Still getting lost on your way to find food? With your appetite, that's alarming," she snickered, nailing the landing.

((Make one of whatz?))

Damon swatted her side, and snorted. "I'm not the one who eats a whole cow! Speak for yourself!"

((Cafeteria. :D))

"You're not the one who needs to compensate as a growing pre-teen," she chortled, humming slightly.

((Oooh xD))
Damon cocked an eyebrow, "I'm well into adult hood love."

"Let me correct myself, a growing preteen dragon," she said, purring at his pet name. "For a dragon, I'm well into adulthood, Sweetie."

He grinned at her sudden sugary tone, he loved it when she mimicked him like that. "Well, seeing as neither of us will come to a conclusion about this in the near future, lets talk about how fast your growing."

"Not fast enough," she said dejectedly. She was smaller than many.

Damon didn't respond, he knew her feelings on it were pretty clear. "Just makes you faster," he noted encouragingly.

She nodded. "I suppose," she said, melancholy. She wondered why Damon was against the Dragonbond program, if he loved his bond with her so much. "I hope they're not serving slop again, for your sake. At least I get a cow."

Damon shrugged, "I don't mind much, foods just food. You have to eat it to survive." As they flew across the grounds, he let his mind wander. Wander back to the past, during a much darker time. He felt his gut clench, and the fond feelings he felt for Veratri close up for now. He needed the strength, that the cold could give him. He had a big decision to make, one that would effect both of them in time.

She felt him clenching up. She remembered her hatching, him the first thing she saw. She wasn't sure what he was thinking of. "You seem sad," she sighed, walking slowly to the pavilion.

((Should she know what he was before?))

((Maybe she knows bits, basically enough to understand what went on. That he was a soldier in the army as a young child. The rest he'll eventually tell her.))

"Not sad," he replied, "there is nothing to be sad about." The tone of his voice was eerily soft, a whisper of a life unlived.

"You feel sad, then," she purred, lifting a wing slightly to knock against his shoulder. She felt slightly bitter that she was the only person he trusted, and yet he didn't truly trust her.

"Hush now," he assured her his voice still unusual. "I'm not sad, you're merely coming to conclusions."

"Poignant, maybe?" she insisted, determined not to shut up. "Perhaps anxious? Do you have exams coming up? I do hope you're studying enough to get fantastic grades," she jabbered, turning her head to look up at him.

"Hey!" He shouted, breaking from his trance. "Watch where we're flying!" He grabbed her neck.

((We should meet up with Mr. Rock soon!))

She'd landed and was walking to the pavilion. "Hmm? Flying?!" she absentmindedly jerked back, jostling him, and then shooting him a dirty look. "Not funny."
