What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

It's a book series by I *think* an Austrialian female author. Definitely a female author. But not as sure about the Australian part.

All I really remember is the beginning of the first book where the main character first starts discovering her powers and that she can hear trees talk through the pattern of their leaves. And I think she has a friend who is a boy who can talk to rocks in a similar kind of way. It's just one of their powers though.

If I recall correctly it's a little more YA-to-teenage in age range. The main character is a teenage girl I think.

So You Want to Be a Wizard by Diane Duane who I believe is Irish.

Or much less likely, but possibly The Eggchild by Lorna Baxter whose nationality I have no idea on.
