Maclean's 8 Canadian books people have sought to ban in Canadahttp://www.macleans.ca/society/life/8...
INFOGRAPHIC: 30 books you may be surprised to learn were challenged by censors http://www.cbc.ca/books/mobile/touch/...
Not a Canadian author but I just finished listening to The Giver and really don't understand why it would be banned. It is 11th on the list of most banned books by the American Library Association. It is in great company with a lot of other terrific books.
Celebrate Freedom to Read Week in Canada. It starts tomorrow Sunday February 26th - Saturday March 4th. What perfect timing to complete your B4 Banned Book Bingo Square. The following link is a great resource for general Banned Book information and for specific information for those participating in Canadian Content's 2017 Bingo Challenge to help you select a book for your Bingo Square if you haven't done so already.
OOPs!! Corrected the posted link at 11:58 Feb 27/2017

The Bingo Challenge doesn't end until December 31, 2017......so it's not to late to begin now and have some fun and camaraderie.
Here are some specific Canadian Banned books: http://www.cbc.ca/books/2017/02/freed... including The Diviners and The Wars which have been monthly group reads here.
To follow that, this link takes you to a list of challenged books, and if you click on the title, it will tell you why it was challenged. http://www.freedomtoread.ca/challenge...
@allison, surprising list. I've read most of these except for the Tremblay and the poetry anthologies. I will see which I can access. Its the one I need to complete the B.'s@Mj, the link you posted was frustrating! Mostly self promotional with lots of teasers. The poster at the bottom is illegible on my home and I won't download on it. So, no titles there.
@ Magdelanye - sorry you were frustrated and had issues with the link. I wouldn't call it self-promotional. It's a site committed to getting the word out about banned books and in fact is the same link that Allison posted except I only took you to its home page. Thought people might be interested in the group's mission, role etc. Allison's link went a step further than its home page and opened one of the site's next links. Picked my banned book from this website. You can choose by book, by author, by country etc. Wanted a book banned in Canada not elsewhere and ending up choosing the 2010 publication of Bad Medicine: A Judge's Struggle for Justice in a First Nations Community
@Mj fair enough!I'll have to explore further when I'm on a desktop.
You've sure picked an extra controversial book. Might go for that one.
@ Magdelanye - I borrowed the 2010 publication of this book from Inter Library Loans. The complaints were from "within" Canada. The book is being re-issued later this year in a 2017 edition. but I figure they likely made some changes (accusations of the original being it was untrue and libelous.) Wanted to read the "real deal."I noticed This One Summer by Mariko Tamaki was added to the list in 2014. One of these days want to read more by Irshad Manji. Have always been impressed with her courage and intellect. Am thinking of starting with Allah, Liberty and Love: The Courage to Reconcile Faith and Freedom (another banned book.)
Here is a long and interesting article on The Handmaid's Tale, written by Margaret Atwood for the NYT.https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/10/bo...
I've decided to use Going Clear: Scientology, Hollywood, and the Prison of Belief for this square. It shocked me when I learned that this book is not officially available in Canada because of libel chill. The Church of Scientology is very litigious and the publisher decided not to publish or distribute this title in Canada and England because of libel laws in those countries.
