HRC Ravenclaw Common Room discussion

I got Anansi Boys from the library and knocked it out. I didn't realize when I grabbed it that it was essentially a sequel to American Gods, which I loved. I enjoyed this book just as much even though there was a bit of the conclusion that made me go "huh?"...

Also I couldn't help but picture Steve Coogan as Grahame Coats.

So I had checked out American Gods to read before Anansi Boys was chosen, but hadn't gotten very far so put it down and picked up Anansi Boys (which I'm not very far into either - need the Thanksgiving Break to read). Will it be weird to read Anansi Boys then American Gods, or are they just companions?

So as I was reading I was really starting to dislike Spider. He is that bad boy who gets it all and does it all and finds joy in ruining people's lives and I just can't stand characters like that. I went on online to see if anyone else felt the same way, and, in fact, there were, but the ones who protested against being anti-Spider said to read on. So I read on. I ended up enjoying it for the most part. I gave it a 4 out of 5. There were parts where I didn't want to put the book down, and I like Neil Gaiman's style and tone of writing. But from the second Spider was formally introduced to *THE BIG REVEAL* (well a little before that because of the foreshadowing that spoiled it...) I couldn't stand his character and some parts saddened me to read, poor Fat Charlie... So yeah... Two months too late, but I finally read this book, if anyone is still around and has thoughts on it.

Shea I agree that it was sometimes hard to watch because I felt so bad for Fat Charlie. I do feel, though, that from the beginning Gaiman makes it clear that Charlie isn't where he's supposed to be and it got obvious pretty quickly with whom he did need to be, so I tried to hold on to that while reading.

Oh also, it took me forever to realize that his last name was Nancy because Anansi. It was definitely a "duh" moment on my part.
