Two things Eowyn Ivey knows how to write about: Harsh arctic weather conditions, and true love.

This book was a slower build for me. However, I found myself more immersed in it as I went on. There were a few places I recall where the writing was particularly beautiful and exceptional. I found myself moved by Sophie's recollections of her father's sculptures and the quest for the perfect divine light. And then by later revelations of her father's backstory. I also felt moved with her joy in her discovery (ies) of the hummingbirds nests, and the concurrent experiences of loss. I also appreciated the experiences and friendship of the two modern day writers. I found I was far more interested and enraptured in Sophie's photography and the internal experiences own the characters, than I was in the Alaskan Wolverine Trail adventures. The first half of the book was a solid three for me, by the end, rounded up to 3.5.

It came in as a strong 4 star for me. I do like how Ivey writes. I have to say, though, that the Snow Child impacted me more.

I'm still yet to finish it, but my star rating will be similar to your if it stays the same as it is now for me.
