I have the book but I am reading the Vampire Academy books first...mainly because I told one of our fellow posters I would. I heard this was a darker and slightly twisted version on the vampire scene with a twist at the end. Since I love dark and lovely things I would say this will be right up my alley. Would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this book. :)

I understan..."and that is why I can't stand to watch movies made after books...once I've seen the actors playing the characters I created in my head I can't get the actors out and then the illusion is shattered...there are very few movies that get it right. Still, for some reason if it's a HORROR movie made after a book...I have to see it. Weird, right?
Jo wrote: "I know what you mean i hate it when my imagined characters and settings are destroyed but i just have to watch the movies anyway because i find it interesting to compare my ideas of the way everyth..."I think the reason why I have a hard time watching the movies is because I am a re-reader. If I only read books one time maybe I wouldn't mind watching the movies. But because I like to re-read based on my mood I can't watch the movies because then when I do re-read I only see the actors and imagine everything as a set as opposed to a setting...or maybe you're also a re-reader and this is just another quark I can add to my lengthy list?
Jo wrote: "Im not a re-reader mostly because i have so many books to read that i am constantly trying to get through them all. There are some books i would like to re-read but a lot of the books i read i know..."Agreed! :)
This book is on my TBR pile but I've heard it's one of the best vampire flicks around. Probably said by people who have not read the book though. Horror is my fav. genre so I also cannot wait to see the movie...
Having read the book after the movie I personally thought the book was brilliant, but also loved the film too. They kept enough in the film for it to still be a good adaptation of the book. I know what you mean though Jo about certain characters not being in the film. I think the film was balanced just right and reading the book gave a more detailed story. I would recommend both!
Jo wrote: "The book is sooo much better than the movie!! I was disappointed by the movie"I think the book may have the edge on the movie, but I think it was a close call.
Jo wrote: "I think i would have enjoyed the movie more if i had seen it first. I think i was expecting it to have everything in and it didn't. I still enjoyed it though."That's fair enough. Though I don't know how you felt but I felt there was a least one scene that would have troubled the censors.
I read this recently and found it horrible. The descriptions were quite graphic at times and actually made me feel ill. I'm not that easily offended I didn't think, but I really didn't like this book. I won't be seeing the film!
I just finished this book yesterday and I gave it 2.5 stars. The story was interesting, but some of the graphic descriptions turned me off. Reading this book was definitely out of my comfort zone, as I am not a fan of horror in the least. I don't mind scary, but I'm not a fan of gruesome. Nor, as a mother, can I stomach reading about men with a sexual preference for young boys. Despite the things I just mentioned, I found the plot to be intriguiging and it kept my attention throughout, but overall this book just wasn't for me. However, I have a younger sister who is a total horror buff, so I'm going to suggest this to her because she'd probably love this book/movie.
I bought it today and plan to have it be my next read. I am looking forward to a dark and scary vampire read!!! It's been along time since I've read one. (Twilight wasn't scary to me)
Jo - so the feelings that Hakan has for Eli...disturbing. He is a pedophile! But he thinks it's fine because she is really "ancient" and older than him ... SICK!
Hi again Jo -- so I am at about page 225 spoilers if you've not read this far. Eli has just "landed" on Virginia....and then I had to leave for work :( The body turned up in the frozen water; and Hakan is in the hospital after pouring the acid on himself...I cannot even imagine what he looks like and the pain!! I do like the book; one thing I especially like is how the character are now starting to intertwine.
Jo wrote: "Glad to hear you are liking it. I found some of the first half to drag a little but you are approaching all of the action now. The acid was pretty horrific. I could never imagine being burnt by..."
Shelli is crusing right along with this book too now!
Sarah wrote: "I just finished this book yesterday and I gave it 2.5 stars. The story was interesting, but some of the graphic descriptions turned me off. Many many of the best books I've read, from many different genres, have nasty scenes and characters as well....TGWTDTattoo is a perfect example...but loved it! I guess because Hakan had a part of him that wasn't "real" he bothered me less than a pedophile in a story that has no fantasy....does that make sense?

That scene was CRAZY!!! Can you even imagine self-inflicting that....and then screwing it up to boot!!!!

No and No!!!
Diane D. wrote: "Jo - so the feelings that Hakan has for Eli...disturbing. He is a pedophile! But he thinks it's fine because she is really "ancient" and older than him ... SICK!"Hakan is just a sicko!!!
Jo wrote: "I don't think i could ever pour acid on myself. Although he was the character that deserved it most."I do think I could throw acid on Hakan though!!!!
Ok, so the morgue scene...when the guy goes back in and describes HOW he knows Hakan is still alive!! EEEEWWWW!!!!
Of course right after I read the scene where he threw the acid on himself, I saw the news story about the girl who faked an acid attack. Turns out she did it to herself. Why???? Weird coincidence to read about it and then see that someone has actually done that to themselves.
Sarah, I saw that same news story. Funny timing for you! I just finished the part where Virginia was in the apartment with all the cats .. not pleasant to read that scene! They are now on the way to the hospital.I like how Oskar can see what has happened in Eli's past when they kiss. And I just read what happened when Eli was "chosen".... talk about getting chills!!!!
I'll be finishing up this weekend.
