After struggling with the style of writing initially, I grew to like this & start to appreciate the humour in parts of it. A clever plot & unexpected ending.

I agree! I like the “hard-boiled” genre much better as film noire. But I’ve gotten more accustomed to its restrictions and expectations. Lots of action; Little character development.
