GRAPHIC NOVEL CATEGORY
Maybe I'm just overly-excited because I haven't read many good graphic novels before, but I loved this book. Cam, a boy who lost his mother and whose father has fallen on hard times, gets nothing but a cardboard box for his birthday. Trying to make the best of it, he and his dad make a man out of that cardboard. But then, while they sleep, the man comes to life. Things are going great for Cam until his greasy, evil neighbor, Marcus, steals some of the cardboard for himself. The plot may sound a little campy, but the book has twists and depths that pulled me in. I was riveted (and the awesome fight scenes didn't hurt, either). In addition to some cardboard-kicking action, there are discussions about death and friendship that make this book meaningful and engaging for all ages. Seriously, give it a try.
