Litsy Reading Challenge 2017 discussion
WELCOME!!
Thanks for setting this up Jessica! Quick question, when I started to print the Bingo card, I noticed that there are many versions of it (I almost printed 32 pages). Are we working off a particular card or whichever one we choose? I guess it doesn't really matter if the object is to fill the entire card. :-)
Kimberly, they all have the same prompts on them. I believe they just rearrange them whenever you refresh the page. It's just a fun way to track what you've accomplished so far!

This sounds so fun! I'm in. Is the goal to be the fist to bingo, get as many bingos as you can, be the first to complete the whole card, or just reading and having fun!
This looks like so much fun. I'm definitely in. I'm TNBooklover66 on Litsy and I follow back if anyone wants to be friends there.
Sara, the bingo card itself is just for fun and to help you keep track. There are no incentives to finish first, or complete it at all. It's just for fun!
I'm in! I have loved doing challenges this year for the first time. Happy to have one with my Litsy friends!

I'm tempted to use this to help with my NetGalley picks! Some interesting topics, and definitely one or two (like the nonfiction food/drink one!) that are so outside my comfort zone it looks like a tiny dot in the distance.
Oh I like this. I also like that it's not a super long list or overwhelming (maybe it just looks smaller because it's arranged on a bingo board!). Either way, thanks for putting this together, and great ideas!
Some ideas came to me immediately as I read over the card while I will have to search for others. I think I will mostly just wait until I finish one and use the card to pick the next.Rana wrote: "Question for the masses, just a curiosity: do people plan out the books to fit each square ahead of time or do you just fit in books onto the squares as you read them?"

I like to spend a little time researching each topic and plan out 1-3 books for each. That way I have structure and options throughout the year! That's another reason why I decided to add hashtags for Litsy and a discussion thread for each, so we can talk about which books we find for all the topics!
Also why I decided to post this a month before the start of 2017 :)

I'm a bit confused about the cards. Are they all the same so we just need to print out one card? Thanks.

Yes, they all have the same topics, but each card will be laid out differently. Only 1 is needed! :)

Hi everyone!!! After a suggestion from the lovely Kimberly, I have started to add shelves for each topic!
Sometimes it's easier to browse a shelf than read a discussion thread, so I liked Kimberly's idea of having both.
I haven't gotten all the shelves up yet, but feel free to start adding to the ones that are there! And please let me know if you run into any problems trying to do it - send me a private message!
Thanks everyone! :) :)

I am planning out the first few based on what I have in NetGalley. The rest, I will have to do some digging around - like, the Rory Gilmore list. All shelves are up! Feel free to add titles to the shelves as you go along, it will help us all pick what we want to read for that topic!

Er, it says "Only moderators of this group can add books. " Is there a way we can all add to the shelves?

I think I fixed it!! Thank you for telling me! :)

I'm in! I'm already committed to another Litsy reading challenge but I'm feeling ambitious! Maybe I could use some titles for both challenges (would that be cheating?). I don't know if that's necessary but my user on Listy is JenBrown as well :)
I am definitely doubling up on books for challenges. You can also double up within a challenge if it works out.
So so excited!!!! I want 2017 to hurry now just to start this! I love regular bingo and this will be even better! ❤️
This looks great!! I'll also be doing Read Harder from Book Riot so I'll have to plan out some overlaps! :)
I'm glad to see we can do this. I've had Kindred on my TBR list for years, and it fits into another category here (and maybe K on the AtoZ challenge too). :)Barbara wrote: "I am definitely doubling up on books for challenges. You can also double up within a challenge if it works out."
So excited for this challenge! I love how some of the categories are so different from other challenges I will be working on! Thank you!
Signing on because I don't have enough reading challenges to complete...LOL. The more the merrier, right? I will definitely be doubling up, there is just no way I can do more than one challenge any other way! I want to do Book Riot Read Harder and Litsy A to Z as well. I hope I can get enough overlap to do them all.
Can I make a suggestion?Maybe a folder for the reading challenges, and another folder for welcomes and introductions?
Rana wrote: "Question for the masses, just a curiosity: do people plan out the books to fit each square ahead of time or do you just fit in books onto the squares as you read them?"I do a little of both when I do prompt challenges like this i.e. I look for prompts that fit books I've already read (e.g. that I read for a book club) and also choose a book from my own shelves/TBR to fit a prompt. I find this is a great way to direct my reading and to help me decide what to read next when I feel overwhelmed by all the choices I have.
Thank you for setting this up. Just started looking at what books to read and already fell down a whole searching for "written by someone your age." LOL @bookzombie on Litsy

Hi Ellana -
Not sure what you mean by folders, but there are discussion threads for each topic as well as a "Who are you?" thread to introduce yourself and share your Litsy handle!
There are also bookshelves for each topic for the group members to add their suggestions!

This might be a silly question but are we supposed to wait until January to start reading? Anyone just diving in straight away?

Yes! This is a challenge for 2017, so technically we should all be waiting. I posted it a month early so everyone would have time to get their reading lists together and plan :)

You can create a folder...
Discussion -> New Topic -> Add a folder
That way you can have a folder for the challenges, and a folder for general stuff (introductions etc.), just so we don't have to scroll through 20+ discussions to get to the new welcome posts ^_^
I'm so excited for this challenge! I love the categories.I think it's great fun to be goodreads friends with other people doing the same challenges, so feel free to add me as a friend if you like to do that too.
Yes! I have another couple of challenges but those are within my comfort zone and this will definitely get me out of there. Excited! My Litsy name is JoRead
I'm really excited for this challenge! I'm amandamariegh on litsy and I'd love to have more book friends!

I've set up this challenge as a Bingo board - 24 prompts, with a "Free Space" for whatever you choose. You can get your board here: http://mfbc.us/m/pew4j
(Please let me know ASAP if the link isn't working!)
Each prompt will have a hashtag associated with it, so you can search it on Litsy to see what others are reading as well. For example, the first prompt will be #LitsyRC1 and the 12th prompt will be #LitsyRC12 (and so on).
#LitsyReadingChallenge
#LitsyChallenge2017
There is a separate discussion post for each prompt - please share your ideas there!
