Connie G (connie_g) | 465 comments Chapter 7

The court of Philip IV hired many dwarfs, some as entertainers, but others as playmates, teachers, or scholars. Chapter 7 tells how Velasquez paints them with the utmost respect. "All people are equal in the art of Velazquez, whatever their size.....Nobody appears in his art as an ornament or device, nobody is high or low. People appear in his paintings simply to be their unique selves. Nothing human can ever be alien to him." (p 88-90)

Heather | 8550 comments Thank you for keeping us up to date with what is happening in the book! Admittedly, I am still not to chapter 7 but I find it intriguing that he respects people as people and doesn't categorize them into specific characteristics. This shows his respect for everyone. I highly respect that.
