75 Books...More or Less! discussion

Last year I set a way high goal and made it. (Yay!) This year, I am going to slow it down a bit and just try for 104 books. (2 books a week should be doable...)

1. Pirate Latitudes by by Michael Crichton - Felt like an adult "Pirates of the Caribean". *** 1/2/2017

2. The Book That Matters Most by Ann Hood - A nice book club book. A story about how a tragedy affected many people over many years. *** 1/2/2017

3. Cold Wind (Joe Pickett #11) by C.J. Box - The 11th Joe Pickett mystery by C.J. Box. Joe's mother in law is on trial for the murder of her latest husband. Can Joe help get her out of trouble? *** 1/12/2017

4. K is for Killer by Sue Grafton - Another Kinsey Millhone mystery. I don't know if it because it has been a while since I read the last Kinsey Millhone mystery, but I thought it was a little darker than her last books. A "good" girl who turned out to be a prostitute has been found dead and her mother believes it is murder. She hires Kinsey to sort things out. *** 1/8/2017

I like Ann Hood, I think I have read a couple of her books.

5. Short & Tall Tales: Moose County Legends Collected by James Mackintosh Qwilleran really by Lilian Jackson Braun - The Main Character in LJB's The Cat Who... books name is James Qwilleran. This is a group of short stories from his new place of residence, Moose County, 400 miles north of everywhere. *** 1/15/2017

6. Memory by Lois McMaster Bujold - Miles has to give up his Admiral Naismith persona. *** 1/16/2017

7. Cover Her Face by P.D. James - A housemaid was killed and Adam Dalgliesh needs to figure out who did it. ** 1/17/2017

8. Reykjavík Nights: Murder in Reykjavík by Indriðason, Arnaldur - Story of an Icelandic Inspector looking into a suspicious death of a homeless man. For 90% of the book, he keeps running into dead ends making him think that he really doesn't have a case, until... *** 1/17/2017

9. Hyena's Tree by Thomas J. Larson - I really enjoyed this book. It is the story of a young man who is a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1970s. I believe it is semi-autobiographical. ***** 1/19/2017

10. The Green Mill Murder (Phryne Fisher, #5) by Kerry Greenwood - A murder at a Dance Competition! Can Phryne solve it? *** 1/23/2017

11. State of Wonder by Ann Patchett - I did not get into this story. I did not find the supporting characters likeable. I felt they were condescending. ** 1/24/2017

12. The New Hunger (Warm Bodies, #1.5) by Isaac Marion - I really enjoyed Warm Bodies but this one didn't do much for me. Hope the next book is a little more... *** 1/25/2017

Oh bummer! Hope the second book is better. I have to read them. Hmm second one comes out in Feb and it says the third one comes out late 2017?

Technically this is the 2nd one, but it is a prequel. I believe the next one is a sequel? Hope it is better. I REALLY liked the first one, Warm Bodies. New Hunger is a short book so it wasn't THAT painful.

I also really enjoyed Warm Bodies and loved the movie as well!

13. Faceless Killers (Kurt Wallender, #1) by Henning Mankell - Nice mystery. The TV show is darker, but both are enjoyable. This is the first book in the Wallender Series. Kurt needs to find out who brutally killed to senior citizens. *** 1/27/2017

14. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney - The January book for the Mother/Daughter Book Club. Danielle picked this one. It was nice, but I think I would have liked it better if I was a tween. The author really did capture the angst of late childhood or being a tween. *** 1/28/2017

15. The Redeemer (Harry Hole, #6) by Nesbø, Jo - A Scandinavian mystery. *** 1/29/2017

16. Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand In the Sun and Be Your Own Person by Shonda Rhimes - What a great book! One day, Shonda's sister told her she always said no. That is what it took to wake Shonda up and get her to change her habits. ***** 1/31/2017

17. The Nanny Song by Misty Mount - Wow! I really enjoyed that book. I know the author! This was a story about a young woman who hired on as a nanny to a... difficult family. **** 1/31/2017

18. Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Harris, Charlaine - I don't know why it took me so long to start this series. Sookie is a sweet waitress down in Louisiana. She has a new boyfriend, a vampire. **** 1/31/2017

I have the first 3 audiobooks and I really need to get started on this series but now since I'm listening to the Kinsey Millhone series I think Sookie will have to wait! lol

19. Star Trek I: The Motion Picture (Star Trek TOS: Movie Novelizations, #1) by Gene Roddenberry, Alan Dean Foster, Harold Livingston - Enjoyed this movie Novelization. Was able to get a little more into the character's heads. There is some "thing" coming towards earth and Kirk and the crew of the Enterprise have to stop it! *** 2/1/2017

I've found that Alan Dean Foster's novelizations are almost always good. I may need to add this one to the list since I'm a huge Star Trek fan :)

I have enjoyed them a lot, too. The cover says Gene Roddenberry wrote this, but after digging, I think it really was ADF. I think the first thing happened to Star Wars, A New Hope. Said it was by George Lucas and I think it really was written by ADF...

I mostly read it to fulfill the Z requirement for the ABC Author Challenge. I enjoyed it. It wasn't Dostoevsky, but it was fun. Kind of like a Conan the Barbarian...

It was OK. I only paid 99 Cents on Amazon for it. I think it was less than 60 pages. THAT one may be worth the read if you are planning on reading the whole series.

26. The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien - Am starting on the journey through Middle Earth, again. This series is like a warm blanket and IMHO, the Peter Jackson movies just enhanced the experience. ****** 2/16/2017

I have read the entire Ross Poldark series and loved them. I wish I could find another series I could enjoy as much.
