Those of us addicted will wax poetic, but even the causal fan loves this series. Definitely worth trying.
It's generally categorized as romantic suspense but I think of it more as mystery/police procedural with strong romantic elements.
The character development aspect is extraordinarily good. Right now, there are over 50 books in the series (including about 10 or so novellas) and each book represents about one month elapsed time in the series. Nora takes the time to flesh out not only the main characters but the strong cast of secondary folks.
Sometimes the cases can be tough, graphic and emotionally challenging. And, it begins in the year 2058. It's more futuristic elements as opposed to science fiction. The gadgets and world changes are in the background, not the main aspects of the books.
Hope this is helpful. You'll know after the first book whether it's your cuppa tea or not.

It may look really daunting with the book count at 45 but they read really fast and are well worth the effort.
Okay I actually already read the first one. .. I didn't remember so I'm starting with the second one.....lol too many books!!
I read the first 3 of this series back in 2009 but I don't remember anything about them. I have the first 5 books on hold with the library but they aren't going to be available for 8 more weeks! It's pretty amazing how popular these books continue to be even after all this time and how many books are in the series now.
I LOVE this series more than any other I have ever read. I started when there were 6 books out. I bought them all in paperback, then eventually switched to e-books. I go back every few years and start from beginning again! I’m in love with so many of the characters and can’t wait to see what happens to them next.
Absolutely love the series. I started the series over to refresh for the books I missed out on. So much better this second time around. Gets better with each book
Hey, Everyone! This is an old thread, but I wanted to comment on it and ask if there are any other Nora Roberts fans out there who have not yet read the In Death series. I have read the series but I am just curious about those of you who haven't yet "crossed over." Is there a reason why you haven't read it yet? Does nearly 50 books in a series make you hesitate to start?
