Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Hey horror fans, it's already time to start nominating books for our January Group Read. Hopefully we'll all be recovered from the holidays and ready to chat about our favorite genre. This month will not be a theme month so feel free to nominate something you've been dying to read or perhaps one of your lesser known old favorites that you want us all to read.

Please do not nominate books that we've read in the last 6 months and remember that authors may not nominate their own books.

Books that have more than 1 nomination are more likely to make it into our final poll so nominate away!

I nominate Dark Matter by Blake Crouch :)

message 3: by Magnus (new)

Magnus I'm in for a reread of blackwater.

message 4: by Lena (new)

Lena | 2683 comments I'm in for Blackwater I just got it for Christmas and it MUST BE READ SOON!

Mixofsunandcloud | 538 comments Blackwater sounds fantastic. I just grabbed the kindle edition, even if we don't read it for the group read.

Cody | CodysBookshelf (codylovesbooks) | 16 comments I'm down for Blackwater, too.

message 7: by Chris (new)

Chris (gonetoyourhaed) | 41 comments Blackwater has my vote too. I've never heard of it but it looks right up my alley.

message 9: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth McKinley | 1719 comments Mod
We haven't read any Brian Moreland in a really long time on here. How about Dead of Winter Dead of Winter by Brian Moreland ? Seems appropriate with Old Man Winter finally showing up here lately.

message 11: by Adele (new)

Adele Marie Marie | 7 comments I'd like to nominate Lives of The Mayfair Witches by Anne Rice. It's a trilogy but every book is a master. Horror, suspense and beautiful writing.

message 12: by Shawn (new)

Shawn Deal | 27 comments The Specimen. Pete Kahle
Or Mcfall. Scott Nicholson.

message 13: by Ev (new)

Ev Helter Skelter The True Story of the Manson Murders by Vincent Bugliosi by Vincent Bugliosi

Helter Skelter is non-fiction, but so far is one of the scariest books I've ever come across. I have to read it while looking over my shoulder in case the Mansons come. :)

message 14: by Latasha (new)

Latasha (latasha513) | 11983 comments I do not nominate the blackwater series cause I just read it earlier this year. It's awesome but too soon for a reread. I'm going wayyyy out there and I nominate the divine comedy if it counts. There is a version on audible that's getting a lot of praise. It's ok if you all don't think it should count for the group. I promise I won't get mad.

Barb (Boxermommyreads) (boxermommy) | 8 comments I want to participate more this year so I'm down for either but I really do need an excuse to get to Dark Matter.

That is a scary one. I read it in high school and remember it giving me nightmares.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Keep the nominations coming. The more nominations a book gets, the more likely the book will make our poll!

message 19: by Marina (new)

Marina | 1 comments Oh yes Dark Matter!

message 20: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte Wildflower | 58 comments Dead of Winter by Brian Moreland
This Dead of Winter sounds really good. I am all for that.

message 21: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments I know I already nominated one, but if I may:

The Abominable by Dan Simmons

The Abominable by Dan Simmons

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Josh wrote: "I would like to read "The Cellar by Richard Laymon and I hope it's a good one."

That book is CRAZY! You should definitely read it :)

message 23: by Lena (last edited Dec 15, 2016 10:34AM) (new)

Lena | 2683 comments Just look at my Christmas Presents and let them do the talking!

FYI - Dark Matter is a blazing fast one or two day read.

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) | 1471 comments Lena wrote: "Just look at my Christmas Present and let do the talking!."

Real live books! I am jealous.

message 25: by Lena (new)

Lena | 2683 comments They are so nice. I love the Stranger Things covers.

message 26: by Stacey (last edited Dec 15, 2016 07:52PM) (new)

Stacey (inkedtexaslady) | 3 comments The Dead of Winter sounds great to me!

Dead of Winter by Brian Moreland

Dead of Winter

message 27: by T. (new)

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments The Abominable is a BEAST. I doubt I could get through it in a month, but it's a hell of a choice. I've never read Blake Crouch's works, so that would be new and interesting. I'm going to vote for that.

message 30: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt , by Thomas Olde Heuvelt. I've read some great reviews on this one, and can't wait to read it!

message 31: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly (kimberly_3238) | 7707 comments Or The Cabinet of Dr Blessing (The Dr Blessing Collection Parts 1-3) by Jack Rollins , Jack Rollins

message 32: by Paula (new)

Barb (Boxermommyreads) (boxermommy) | 8 comments Oh, I completely forgot about Hex

I'll second this nomination. Never heard of it until now [oh wait that's a lie, it's on my TBR shelf! i forgot all about it!] but it looks good and my library has a copy, lol.

message 35: by Quantum (last edited Dec 15, 2016 09:05PM) (new)

Quantum (quantumkatana) How about:

Ghost Camera

118pp
3.9 GR stars
2014
Kindle $2.99
Print (new) $12+ (B&N)

A small number of cameras have the ability to capture ghosts on film. This gift comes at a steep price; the ghosts are resentful and hungry, and the cameras offer them a rare chance to reach their favourite prey… humans.

Jenine didn’t know any of this when she found an abandoned Polaroid camera in a lighthouse. At first she assumes the ghostly shapes in the photos are a glitch or a prank – but then the spirits begin to hunt her down, and she’s forced into a deadly race to free herself from the camera’s curse.

Aliyah (Barbellsnbooks) (booksnotdetention) I nominate "Punish the Sinners" by John Saul

I bought it a few weeks ago, it looks insanely good!

message 39: by David (new)

David | 3 comments I can't read Adam Nevill's No One Gets Out Alive again. It's far far too scary! I'll read his new book Under A Watchful Eye instead. The Terror is a cool choice too for January. There's never been a colder book.

message 40: by Badseedgirl (new)

Badseedgirl | 1033 comments I vote Dark Matter, Blake Crouch.
I read Hex earlier this year and it was great.

message 41: by T. (new)

T. (tblakebraddy) | 52 comments I'm totally down for Blake Crouch. Never read him, so it would be an adventure for me.

message 42: by Joel (new)

Joel Werley | 60 comments Since there was a lot of interest in this month's The Willows discussion thread for reading some similar classic fiction, I was thinking to nominate another genre touchstone like The Great God Pan or The King in Yellow, and have settled for my recommendation on MR James' Ghost Stories of an Antiquary. It is free on kindle and it's a short collection of James' ghost stories, which are considered among the best in the genre. James might make a good second group read for those of us not disposed to the Blake Crouch type of popular fiction.

message 43: by Marie (new)

Marie | 4053 comments I nominate Dracula Dracula by Bram Stoker by Bram Stoker. I have been wanting to read it as I don't think I have ever read it before. I thought it would be neat to go with a classic and it being free on Amazon helps.

message 44: by Trinity (new)

Trinity | 81 comments I nominate (or not, if someone already has) IT by Stephen King, Rosemary's Baby (sorry, forgot who it's by) and Salems lot (like it, also by Stephen King) Sorry if you have read these recently, I'm sort of a new member!

message 45: by Jack (new)

Jack | 29 comments I nominate The rats by James Herbert

message 46: by Katy (new)

Katy Mann | 988 comments Jack wrote: "I nominate The rats by James Herbert"

AH, that gave me nightmares! I was a kid in SoCal during the Manson murder spree and read this in junior high. Loved the book. Very unsettling.

I don't know how y'all made it through this book. I am still at the beginning stages, but if we read this as a group, I may just have to get the guts to finish it, lol.
