That's a really good point, Camille. I added another rule on what you can do if you get stuck with a dnf.

I'm in again. But would rather not start over. I am in the middle of Bleak House from my last throw. If I ever finish, I sure want to have credit for it. lol It is slow going. I really liked the movie, but as usual, Mr. Dickens is very wordy.

Thank you Renee' -- now to contemplate which to read.
Finished Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal which was both icky and completely fascinating. Somehow Mary Roach makes everything fascinating.
Rolled a 7. BOOK BAN: I'm going with The Bell Jar because I keep putting it on my Currently Reading list, but then not starting it. Might take me awhile. Winter doesn't seem like a great time for an emotionally draining book.

Finished my Classic Northanger Abbey by J. Austen. Beginning my 2nd time around the board. Threw an 11. Landed on the Electric Company for "a setting that is new to you. ". Will have to give that some thought. Suggestions are welcome.
For my next book I need a movie adaptation. I have a few books on my shelves that fit this category. Was wondering if One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest would also be considered an unreliable narrator.

Lynnette wrote: "Michelle wrote: "For my next book I need a movie adaptation. I have a few books on my shelves that fit this category. Was wondering if One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest would also be co..."It's a narrator whose "credibility has been seriously compromised".
An Unreliable narrator tells the story but has a limited understanding of the details (sometimes on purpose but often because they are impartial or otherwise inhibited from the whole picture of the events). Gone Girl is a good example. Both The Moonstone and The Sound and the Fury use a series of narrators because each is flawed and only hearing many sides tells the whole story. Although, sometimes when it is used the author lets you know that the narrator is unreliable even as they're telling their story so the reader starts paying attention to prejudices or gaps.
I think Cuckoo's Nest should be okay for that category. You only really see the patient's point of view. It's Not exactly an example of the device but I think you can argue it.

Ken Kesey, the author, worked in a psychiatric hospital sometime before the NOVEL was written. I believe, it is based, somewhat on his experiences. Ken Kesey was a wee bit of a radical in his time. You know, the kind, in the 60's & 70's, folks who told "told it like it is". No matter who hates it. IF you read it, remember when it was written & try to see it from a 1960's perspective. Many of the books are the 1001 books before you die must be read with a perspective of history.
Does anyone have any suggestions on fiction books with the theme of friendship? I've come up with a few but haven't been in the mood to read them so have changed my mind multiple times.
Amber, I have a shelf of books that have a theme of friendship so you could see if anything interests you there. There's not much on it, but there are also some books that you might not think of.
I looked at your TBR and I think The Uglies would fit for friendship. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is an obvious one but I think you could make a case for anything that has characters with a strong friendship bond. I'm currently reading the Riyria books by Michael Sullivan. It's sword and sorcery fantasy but the two main characters are bound by friendship and trust.
Yes, that's definitely the intent - characters with a strong friendship bond. It doesn't have to be specifically about friendship.
I think the Riyria books take up half of my friendship shelf, Renee. :D

I chose Perfume: The Story of a Murderer set in in 1700's in France, not Paris. I believe that is a first for that period in France.
Finished Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Today I rolled a 7 for Historical Fiction. Will have to check my shelves. I like this genre so should be an easy one.
