For those of you that haven't heard, Samhain has not only shut down it's horror line but they are also closing the door on us to be able to download/buy any of their horror offerings starting 2017. That really stinks because they had a nice stable of horror heavyweights published under their horror line. The list includes Ronald Malfi, Jonathan Janz, Ramsey Campbell, Greg Gifune, Richard Laymon, Hunter Shea, Brian Moreland, Bryan Smith, John Everson, Glenn Rolfe, Kristofer Rufty, David Bernstein, Adam Cesare, David Searles, Catherine Cavendish, Frazer Lee, Shane McKenzie, Matt Manochio, and many more. So if you're into these authors (and if you're not, you sure should be!), don't hesitate. Go to Amazon and type in Samhain Horror and get those slabs of great horror while you still can.

Justin (justinbienvenue) I interviewed several of these authors as part of a collaboration with myself and Sinister Grin Press. Shame a press is closing, hopefully they'll be able to get those works published elsewhere.

Yeah, I'm hoping so too. I'm friends with a handful of them and there really is a lot of talented work that's going to be lost until they can get it untangled and with another publisher. Sinister Grin is pumping out some nice stuff right now and I know a few of the authors that were with Samhain are now on board with them. I hope they can help see this work eventually see the light of day again.

Kat (celestialviolence) | 5 comments Well that's depressing. did they give any reason why?

They didn't have a firm grasp on how to make their horror line profitable and decided to give it the axe.

message 6: by Lena (new)

Lena This is concerning. You seem to be in the know, is there any tale of horror you can think among these authors that is also a tale of romance. I'd like to buy it immediately. They are rare and I wouldn't like to miss it.

message 7: by Kenneth (new)

Kenneth McKinley | 677 comments Mod
Hmm...tough question. There are a few that have shades of romance permeating through the horror, but I don't know if that would be enough to be considered what you're looking for.

message 8: by Lena (new)

Lena I just went through the seventy plus horror books I've reviewed since joining and found no examples to give you. Best shades you've got then. Like I said, rare.

Can you give me any type of example you're looking for and can compare it to? I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction.

message 10: by Lena (new)

Lena Let's say Candyman, Wizard and Glass, The Fly, and Lisey's Story. A somber list. I'd prefer and HEA but it's the best I could come up with.

The first one that comes to mind would be one that I'd describe as one F'd up friendship/love story, Vicki Beautiful Vicki Beautiful by Somer Canon by Somer Canon.

Others that I would recommend, only because they are so damn good that I'd hate to see you miss out, would be

Blood Sacrifices Blood Sacrifices by Brian Moreland by Brian Moreland

Dead of Winter Dead of Winter by Brian Moreland by Brian Moreland

Exorcist Road Exorcist Road by Jonathan Janz by Jonathan Janz

Wolf Land Wolf Land by Jonathan Janz by Jonathan Janz

The Narrows The Narrows by Ronald Malfi by Ronald Malfi

Lena Grabbed Wolf Land. Thank you.

Amanda | 1 comments This is such sad news. I've started purchasing all the books I can. These are all amazingly talented authors and more than deserve our support.

David Brian (davidbrian) Before everyone rushes out and starts buying up Samhain's stock, they may want to give a thought as to whether the authors will see any of those royalties, and/or easily get their rights back. (I'm not saying they won't, I'm just saying give it some thought.)

The alarm bells have been ringing since Samhains rather unceremonious dumping of Dan D'Auria. And the way Christina Brashear went about unloading Dan, a man with umpteen years experience of successfully publishing horror titles, well, it left a rather bad taste.

Lee (calmerthanyouare) | 15 comments Brian Keene has covered the continuing story of Samhain on his podcasts (http://www.thehorrorshowwithbriankeen...). Very informative he is too. Christina Brashear is loosing the plot a little.

Such a shame as it had lots of my favourite authors. I had a pipe dream of seeing something published by me with the Samhain logo on the spine one day.

Such a cool name as well!

As long as you like your horror a bit graphic, try Mother's Boys. On the surface, it doesn't seem like a romance. But by the end it is a true love story. I promise.

Great. If you like it, or have any interest in other Blood Bound Books titles, let me know. I can get you a discount on everything on the BBB Amazon page (paperback or Kindle)

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) Do we know the complete cut-off? The books are still on their website but I know they are closing in 2017. Such a shame. There's a large grouping there and I'm not sure what to try out. I know I like some of the authors, others not. Picked up Borealis by Ronald Malfi since it caught my eye and I enjoyed his writing like year in 'Snow'

message 20: by Lori (new)

Lori Perkins (loriperkins) | 1 comments Riverdale Avenue Books picked up many of the Samhain horror titles and author. We just re-published DEMON WITH A COMB-OVER by Stuart R, West (just in time for the Inauguration) with a new novella THE BOOK OF KOBAL. It's the first title in our new horror imprint, Afraid.

If you want to review it, it's on netgalleys. Please give the new line your support. And remind eveyone that it's there.

The Editorial Director of the new line is Max Ximenez.

That's great news, Lori. Thanks for the info!

Justin (justinbienvenue) Samhain horror lives on!

message 23: by Glenn (new)

Glenn Rolfe | 71 comments Hey guys and gals,
Crossroad Press is also publishing a bunch of Samhain titles by myself, Matt Manochio, Eric Red, Tim Waggoner, and Catherine Cavendish.

They re-released two of my Samhain novellas THINGS WE FEAR
Things We Fear by Glenn Rolfe and ABRAM'S BRIDGE Abram's Bridge by Glenn Rolfe

Note: I know this is the Gore group, so if you check out either of my re-releases, be warned, these are two of my less-gore flavored offerings. More like thrillers with horror elements.

We Samhainers live on! Thanks for the love.

Thanks for the info, Glenn! And for the record, we'r the Gore and MORE group, i.e., we like our gore, but story comes first (which all of your stuff always excels!). I'm happy to see that it didn't take long for your books to find a new home!
